Speed, skill and defensive ability.

Man I want to see this line so bad.

Could be one of the best third lines in the league.

Yup. Brown's likely going to play on the 3RW to start and I have nothing against Brown, but he's not ideal for that line.

I think Brown would be perfect on the LW with Matthews-Nylander or Tavares-Marner.

  • I think Hainsey's minutes need to be reigned in quite a bit, especially now that he's another year older. Rielly has quite a bit of experience playing on the right side, and Dermott despite his age was arguably our best defensive defenceman last season (granted over a smallish sample size). Putting Dermott on the top pair would depend largely on how training camp goes, and if he doesn't seem ready, I'd slide him down to the second pairing and move Zaitsev up.
  • Sorry Leivo, but I just can't picture cutting the guys with better speed/defensive awareness.
  • #7 dman spot I think is very very up in the air, and very dependent on pre-season. I'm not particularly attached to any option, though I think Rosen, Ozhiganov, Holl, Borgman, and maybe Marincin are the only real candidates. Liljegren should get another year in the AHL (i.e. I want to see him dominate down there first, similar to Nylander/Kadri/etc, before coming up).
  • McEhlinney has been great for us, but I think we just can't risk losing Sparks for nothing. He could be an NHLer for a longtime, and one good NHL season after the AHL career he's had would give him some pretty decent trade value if we wanted to go that route.
  • Depending on how guys play, I think Marleau, Kapanen, Johnsson, Brown, Hyman, and Ennis could all get shuffled around the lineup.

Sparks

1. Those forward lines are hilarious to type out
2. Rielly-Dermott is something everyone wants to see but hopefully will get more opportunities than last year.
3. Gardiner-Zaitsev doesn't work, try out Holl/OZ/Carrick to see the RHD but I have no issues seeing Rosen or Borgman have a shot.
4. Is has to be Sparks... right?

Johnsson - Matty - Nylander
Leivo - Tavares - Marner
Marleau - Kadri - Kap
Hyman - Goat - Brown

This will never happen but I would like to see it once in an exhibition game after camp performances. The real issue is Johnsson and Leivo would put up some big numbers and then we would lose them to the cap. So what Babs is doing makes sense i get it.

Not saying these should be the lines, but that the line I outline should exist or at least be tried within our team's roster.

I'd love to see any of the following at least at some point

Leivo-Matthews-Nylander
Leivo-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Tavares-Kapanen
Grundstrom-Hyman-Brown

Apart from that, I'm fine with whatever Babcock does, but I do want to see Leivo given a fair shake one time on the top lines and an opportunity to produce. Pairing Tavares with two speed demons would also be very interesting and an all grinder 4th line of G-H-B could be unreal, as much as Hyman sucks as a first line winger, he would be probably the best 4th liner in the league, especially along with Brown.

My ideal lines:

Marleau - Matthews - Nylander
Johnsson - Tavares - Marner
Hyman - Kadri - Kapanen
Leivo/Ennis - Lindholm - Brown

AJ can be semi-sheltered with two quality line mates, Hyman drops on Kadri's wing to be part of a line with good defense, speed, grit, and scoring that can match up against other team's top lines if needed.

Using only Roster players / AHL / SINGED or drafted LEAF players what would be your ideal lines for next season
(NO USING PLAYERS FROM OTHER TEAMS)
I'm just curious to see everyone options are, and who they feel deserves to slot in where. feel free to explain why if needed or debate other HF member rosters but I'm super curious in seeing what players / line up you would like to see for the 2018 season before the camp.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Tavares-Marner
johnsson-Kadri-K.K
Levio-GOAT-Brown

Rielly-Hainsey
Dermott-Ozhiganov
Gardiner-Zaitsev
I'd like to see Lilegren as the 7th but i doubt it

Please post your ideal lines so i can see what you guys are thinking ! would love to see the different options / options you guys have

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Tavares - Marner
Grundy - Kadri - Kappy
Leivo - Lindholm - Bracco
Engvall - Brooks - Marchy

Rielly - Dermott
Gards - Ozhiganov
Borgy - Liljegren
Sandin - Durzi
Rosen - Rasanen

TRADED
Brown
Hyman
Zaitsev
Hainsey
Carrick
Gauthier
Why is this my ideal lineup?

1) Because it means all of our top-prospects panned out.
2) Because we'll get a nice present from the guys we traded.

Kadri - Tavares - Brown = [match-up line]
Marleau - Nylander - Kapanen = [sheltered scoring line]
Leivo - Lindholm - Hyman = [forechecking & board work line]

This is more realistic:

Nylander - Matthews - Kapanen
Marleau - Tavares - Marner
Johnsson - Kadri - Brown
Leivo - Lindholm - Hyman

Nylander is better on the LW and Hyman is better on the RW.

I'm surprised that more people don't have Marleau, Matthews, Marner together.

Pickard

Essentially 2 first lines, a second Line, and a 3rd line at forward.

From what we’ve seen in the past Rielly and Gardiner actually have chemistry. Dermott played good with Polak last year so I don’t see why he couldn’t play good with Z.
Rosen, Ozhiganov, and Borgman can fight over the last 2 spots. If someone goes down we can call up Liljegren (who’s been looking amazing this preseason)
