I really liked McWard from his handful of games to end last season. Glad to see it wasn't just luck or a flash in the pan. Our D pipeline has come a long way and it's looking like getting rid of OEL sooner than later was the right move to get these hungry kids a chance.

Good for the prospects to finish out strong. That second-period penalty trouble cost them but that 3rd showed what this bunch is all about.
Much like Calgary, Edmonton really has nothing coming up in the pipeline as far as prospects. These two teams need to start hitting on some picks sooner than later for some cheap/good supplemental depth

I honestly can’t recall a player not drafted in the first round who was a contributor on the Oilers for the last like… 10+ years.

Was excited when this started, now happy it's over and we can move on to the real thing at regular camp. Some ugly hockey over the last 2 days.

- Hirose and McWard both very good again. Looking forward to how both show in the preseason. Legitimate prospects, easily the best defenders in this tournament. McWard's skating looks crazily better than I remember it from last April, made a few effortless recoveries today.

- Raty was much, much better today and the best forward for either team. Worked hard, lots of smart passes, kept his feet moving a little bit better.

- thought McDonough looked pretty sluggish today (3rd game in 3 1/2 days for a big guy, probably fair enough) but then scored a laser to make it 4-2. Big-time shot that will play in the AHL but his skating is still hugely problematic.

- after watching Zlodeyev for a couple games, I don't see how you could justify using a contract slot on him. Works hard and if he wants to take an AHL deal and go to Kalamazoo and try to battle his way up, great. But there isn't a lot of skating or talent there.

- Plasek looks faster than when we last saw him 2 years ago. Never thought we'd see him again, wonder what the plan for him this year is?

- none of the invites really look worth a contract. Maillet didn't play today but was probably overall the best. Daschke on D today was awful.

- Alriksson had his best game of the 3. More involved, moved his feet better.

- Tolopilo looks very promising. Both goals were point blank shots, was easily the most impressive goalie in this tournament. Already 23 so needs to get lots of action in the AHL ASAP.

- Lemieux played a period in net and looked decent enough.

- Klimovich had some very good moments including one of his Jeff Carter-looking rushes/shots that rang off the post and then a couple absolutely terrible puck management moments. Wearing Virtanen's old #18 just amplifies the feeling of dumb.

- the AHL contract crowd of Gatcomb/Schmiemann/Nychuk were all good tonight, as you'd expect given their age and pro experience.

- Max Wanner looks like a nice steal of a 7th round pick for Edmonton.
