Maybe at some point Hughes and Nemec are going to be exceedingly good but they're not there yet (at least Hughes isn't). Thrusting those guys into those roles so early and it's not a surprise they struggle when Smith is your vet D

The haters and losers (of which there were many) wouldnt listen to me in the summer when I would tell anyone who asked (or didnt ask) that the Devils werent a Cup contender, and in actuality, were just a bad team. Let 2 veteran top 4 D men walk (for nothing) and replaced them with rookies. Didnt address their issues in goal. Theyve set the team back years because now they will act in desperation and trade a bunch of futures for a goalie. Theyve also locked themselves into this core.

I can't remember a single team that either made the finals, or won the cup, that doesn't have a greasy wild-card player on their 4th line. I think a lot of people are just more frustrated that Rempe is a Ranger and that we are one of the top contenders in the league right now. We're a frustrating team to play against because we have a little bit of everything sprinkled throughout the lineup. And as others in this thread have said this franchise spent a good chunk of years being bullied around so for a team craving a championship for the first time in 30 long years, Rempe is just that important to have around, dirty hits and all.

I think the league will tack on an extra game for the bye bye wave. Won’t be surprised if it’s 5 games.

Should be 1 or 2 games at most with the way the league hands out these suspensions. They usually consider and in game ejection time served. 5 games for a rookie in his 10th career game for an elbow we see multiple times a week uncalled would be ridiculous. If it's anything ore than 2 games, and example is being made of Rempe.

No matter what, it won't be enough for everyone but Ranger fans. Unless the league folds the team, the masses won't be happy. Expecting 1 game.
Deserves a game, wouldn't be mad if 2. He can't be doing that. The wave was cringey to me, especially since he was the one getting escorted off. At that point, he should have fought Macdermid or however you spell it.

Refs clearly did not want that to happen. They grabbed Macdermid and hauled him away from Rempe before there was even a chance they might meet face to face. The other refs/linesman surrounded Rempe immediately
There was no real chance to fight macdermid without shoving refs out of the way. Sure , I guess he could have done it , I have doubts the refs would have let them go however. They really wanted none of that and to send those guys off asap

Cooke may have been the scummiest player I have ever seen.

The other player I felt the same way about was Bobby Clarke. Some of the seniors here might agree.

I'm not a senior in that sense, but I wrote my BA on the Summit Series just now, and let me tell you guys, Bobby Clarke made me question hockey. Waiting on my results, I'll post about it then.

-------

Missed the show last night. Loved the Rempe hand-wave. McDermitt's postgame interview was some bitch ass shit, lol. One more game against the Debbies, nice.

Is Rempe in tonight? edit: yeah, that's a suspension.

this is the best Zac Jones has ever looked imo. Won battles, strong gaps, moved the puck efficiently. If anything at all, his value should go up quite a bit after this stretch.

And imagine he got to play more than a couple times a month

Clarke would literally have killed a guy if it meant the difference in winning or losing that series. I have no doubt in my mind.

Many would have, Phil Esposito is quoted saying what you wrote. Judging by how our Rod Gilbert played, he would have too. But Clarke was actually criminal in the series. The last game of the series in Czechia, which is technially part of the whole SS72 event, had the worst offense. This beauty:

Tbh, if I had ever played against Clarke, I'd try to kill him first.

And this was just an exhibition game after they'd already won the summit series? First time I'd ever seen it, I think.

Correct, three exhibition games in total. You had four games on Canadian soil, then two bloodbaths against Sweden, four games in Moscow and the last game in Prague. This video surfaced way later and the incident was forgotten in the lore.

I read Sinden, Esposito and Ken Dryden's books published in 1972. In Espo's case, it's only partially about the SS72. iirc none of them mention the incident. Maybe Jack Ludwig (Hockey Night in Moscow) did, but I'm not sure, didn't read it entirely. Sinden and Dryden's books are great and contrast/complement the picture greatly, if anybody wants to read up on hockey history.

I have been saying for months now, it is not a coincidence Bread is having a career year at 32 with Lafreniere on his line. Laf has been an elite 5v5 forward for 3 years now, and if he got PP time commensurate with his 5v5 results he would likely already be a 70-80 point player.
If Laf had reasonable puck luck this year he'd probably be PPG... without PP1.

They were good, but never really great to begin with.

How the Rangers lost to this team in the playoffs last year, after being up 2-0 and not being able to beat a goalie who is currently in the AHL was about the Rangers turning to shit and less about them being great.

I was told that it's a foregone conclusion they'll be a dynasty.

I don’t think so, if you watch it over and compare it to other big elbows this isn’t a chicken wing and the elbow is making contact through a forward motion from Rempe’s body rather than a sideways motion like if he were sticking his elbow out to catch a guy. Rempe continues with forward momentum and Siegenthaler stops on a dime rather than bracing for the hit. Rempe was expecting to check through the body but Siegenthaler stopped and Rempe’s momentum carried through
I agree with this, but it was still the right call. If he hadn't extended the elbow, there would be no issue. I have no idea what DoPS will do.

I didn't notice that.
