I imagine the deal is fine with Gruby. He opted to not elect for arb, probably to prevent the Capitals from opting for the 2 year option. With this contract he's likely to be traded. If not, we go through the same song and dance next year.

I think it's the opposite in fact. Caps asking price was a bit too rich for a few teams. Give it time, there will be a team in playoff position that feels unsteady about goal, they'll give up something nice to get him.
