For 735k what is not to like?

There’s zero downside to this move. If he produces well at 3RW, it’s a steal of a deal and they’ve replaced what they lost in Connolly. If he doesn’t produce, this is a small enough contract that Sheary can easily be a healthy scratch or even on the taxi squad with no real cap impact.

This is spot on. At worst if he sucks, they waive him. And if he clears, he sits on the taxi squad all year, with no impact on their cap space whatsoever. Regardless of whether or not he's a "good" NHL player, he's still a legitimate NHL player, and having guys like him around and ready to go on any given day if they're needed is a big strength for a team right now. Certainly much better than having to call up some random AHLer on short notice.

Whats the list of ex-penguins who signed with Washington the last couple years

Orpik, Niskanen, Schultz, Hagelin, Sprong, Sheary, Winnik, Chorney, Sill. Who else?
Your definition of “couple” is curious. I suppose we should add Orest Kindrachuk, Kip Miller, Robert Lang...

He is a quality ~35 point 3rd line LW. For under 800k it is a steal.
Its a decent low risk signing but the wording you used is incredibly inaccurate. There is NO way, and I would put money on it sheary get 35 points this season playing on ANY line. If he is playing on the third line the team has other issues.

Aside from the obvious comedy of him being a former Penguin and the Caps getting a few of these lately, I think he's a decent option on the 4th line.

I don't think Panik ever fit in nicely with the Caps, I would be OK with having Hagelin/Sheary as the 3rd and 4th line options and getting rid of Panik, who is made redundant by Hagelin IMO.

The Caps got 3 of those guys directly from the Penguins. 1 hasnt played a game yet. The other 2 changed the culture and won a cup. Laugh all you like.
