This is not terrible if you go Granderson-Pillar-FA (can flip LF/RF).

This is very terrible if this is the outfield signing.

I really like the Granderson signing, he was a target of mine for a Pearce platoon at the start of the offseason. However, if that’s the only outfield addition... yikes.

I fully expect the narrative here to go from “just sign somebody already” to “really, Curtis Granderson? This team is a joke, why sign him”’

Has played at least 135 games in 11 of his last 12 seasons. Sneakily put up 5.1 WAR, 2.6 and 2.1 seasons with 20+ HRs and 70+ RBIs in his last 3 years with good base running and good defense in the corner OF positions. A steal for 1 year but I'm really underwhelmed of this is all we do in the OF. Bats left and has a career .340 obp... But 36 is still 36.

Sign Granderson a few hours after McCutchen is traded makes me think they lost out on him.

My guess is that Granderson will either be
1) A backup OF, in which case another OF is likely to be signed
2) To platoon with Pearce in LF, in which case I expect a SP to be the Blue Jays big acquisition

Still at least 15 million for the Jays to spend allegedly so this isn't the last move. If it's #1 I really like the move, he would be an great backup OF, if it's #2, then it would depend on who the SP is.

If we're talking about declining outfielders that I like then may as well have brought back Jose.

Could also be that Granderson had offers from us and Giants, and as soon as the Giants made their move he took our offer.

Isn't Carerra the back up outfielder?

I guess this move makes sense. They have cornered the market on utility infielders and now are moving on to the utility outfielders...

I mean there is a huge difference between a guy who had a 2.1 fWAR last year and a guy who had a -0.5 fWAR last year.

5 million seems like a lot for a guy who nowadays will give you a .228 avg, maybe steal 8 bases. Can't see the reasoning here why we would use up 1/4 of the available salary for him. That's not a good signing at all.

Yeah, I would say him platooning with Pearce makes more sense but I could see him being a backup OF. They could now just trade Carerra if need be or just let him go. 1.9M isn't really anything and a team may claim him anyway.

Davidi says the Jays still want another OF’er

With less money now I bet it's by trade. Maybe Pearce gets move.

Have Pillar, Granderson, Pearce and Zeke under contract and they are looking to add another. Got to think one is gone for sure... at least 2 if Atkins comments about Hernandez earning a Spring Training to prove himself.

You conveniently left out the 26 home runs, 105 wRC+ (115 with the mets, 124 vs righties), and +6 DRS in the corner OF. 5 mil for a league average player is chump change.

Granderson as a Backup/depth signing is great. But if he's our main OF signing of the season, then Jays should mail it in
