Few things from an article today in Star:

- Schiemenz is up to 5'11 175, up from 5'10 145 when he was a Ranger. Apparently the year in Germany paid off.
- Rychel is still looking at unprotected OAs and has until Jan 15 to sign one.
- "nothing imminent" for trades, but he knows as well as we do that last-minute stuff can certainly happen.
Schiemenz was the leading scorer or close to those stats in the exhibition games when he first came here. I think the Rangers thought they really had a player. He slowed right down in league play partially because of a lack of ice time. He was on the light side and probably in over his head with the speed and size of the players in the OHL. I see where you posted he has added size. Hope he does well with the Spits.

If Rychel makes any tinkering trades today it should be to acquire 1998's - both of our current ones are not OA worthy heading into next season.

Deadline could be pretty flat today as most of the moves have been made league-wide already.

While I agree that a couple of 98s might be fine it all depends on the cost. It would be nice if we could add without spending.
The only way to do that is adding O/A.
Not knowing who’s available makes it difficult but I wouldn’t mind it if we could deal for a younger goaltender...

If I recall correctly the Laishram deal was not announced until sometime between 1 and 1:30 last year and it was the last one announced - so still a wait and see I guess- Warren did say he was still trying for a released OA from any of the other leagues on waiver?

Deals were still coming in after 2 yesterday.

We definitely have a shortage of RHD & RC/RW. Schiemenz is listed as a LW so not sure if he will slot in on the open RW position or not. Overall Rychel has set the Spits up for what looks to be a solid foundation of a rebuild. Definitely better then after 2011. Does Warren have anymore kids he needs to draft?

My understanding of the OA issue was teams would release OA's at the trade deadline ( before the deadline seperation) and they had no time to sign anywhere else, so moving their trade deadline up a day gave them 24 hours to sign with another team off of the waiver wire. So the trade deadline for OA's is today at noon but with teams having 4 required to declare today as well. The dropped ( 4th) OA still has 24 hours to sign with another team but cannot be traded once signed - logic here was the OA's had stuck with the league this year and the league wanted to give them an opportunity to finish out the year if a team wanted them.
Just wanted to clarify one thing on this post - I was wrong on the length of time you have to sign an OA off of the waiver wire - you have until the 15th but you do need a card and 2 or less OA's to do that.

Wish there was official waiver wire list we could all analyze!! lol......I think WR will pick up another OA by the sounds of it....knowing him it could be on the 15th!!

OA can come from any of the 3 leagues so he will need time to review options - also with 2 cards left he could sign a player off of his 50 man protected list up until mid February or so ( not sure on the exact date of this one either) - and although rare this has happened.

Considering how devoid of early picks Windsor's draft cupboard was Rychel has done an excellent job of bringing the pick situation back to balance, even adding a couple of extra for the 2021 draft and beyond.

As for the next 3 drafts I would consider the picks added to be only fair at best. Considering Rychel moved 4 of the biggest pieces available in the next 3 drafts he only added a combination of 5 2nd and 3rd rounders but one of those had to be given up to meet the conditions of the Laishram deal.

Adding a 2000 born and 2 2001 born players helps adding youth to the line up this year but looking beyond the deals and seeing the immediate future of Windsor's draft board shows there is still a lot of work to be done.

Some will say those picks or extra picks if Windsor chooses to add them can be acquired before the draft (referring to 2018 draft) while true each such deal to add extra picks or fill in remaining holes will create at least 2 more holes down the road.

If DiPietro, or others are moved next year that should help fill in some of the missing picks in the 2019 and 2020 drafts as well as add a couple of extras down the road for future deals.

While an overall good job at adding youth/restocking distant picks not exactly a great job with the immediate future/next 3 drafts only slightly improved.

Windsor 2nd in 2025 was a conditional pick to Kitchener that was to be upgraded when Windsor acquired a higher pick. It's been reported here and elsewhere that the conditions were removed which I assume to mean Kitchener keeps the 2025 pick instead of an upgraded pick. If this is incorrect someone please correct.

There are other conditional picks involving Windsor in mid/later rounds. Only 2nd/3rd round conditionals accounted for.

If DiPietro is moved next season I’m sure the 2019 & 2020 Draft cupboards will be full. Along with an 02 first rounder. No worries about that aspect. Excited to see the young team grow and develop!

Definitely looking forward to seeing what the kids do, while I would have preferred to see DiPietro moved there's no doubt he can provide some stability for the kids the rest of the season.

While there should be no doubt moving DiPietro should bring in picks in the 2019 and 2020 drafts, plus a couple of more I'm not 100% that a half a year of DiPietro returns a 2002 as well. Something along the lines of 4 2nds and a 3rd or 3 2nds and 2/3 3rds is what I can see coming back. If he returns a 2002 I can see 2 2nds with that. I don't think he will be the only option available. May still be the best but there should be other good options.

Next year, and the year after Windsor needs to also start stockpiling some extra 2nds and 3rds in 2021 and beyond if they want assets to deal without fully draining the cupboard for the next time they are ready to contend.
