Lightning trade Maroon, Cajkovic to Wild for seventh-round pick

The Minnesota Wild acquired forward Pat Maroon and Maxim Cajkovic from the Minnesota Wild on Sunday in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Maroon had five goals and nine assists plus 150 PIMs in 80 games with the Lightning last season. The 35-year-old from St. Louis won the Stanley Cup in three consecutive seasons with his hometown Blues (2019) and the Lightning (2020 and 2021).

Cajkovic, who was drafted by the Lightning in 2019, has yet to play in the NHL and spent last year with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears.

Not promising that he was spending time in the ECHL at his age. Going the wrong direction.

Good way to describe it. Only giving up a 7th and getting a young prospect in return is what makes me feel a little more optimistic about it.

Pretty sure the reason he was included was because it's easier to explain why we gave up anything for a 35 4th liner when free agency just opened and he didn't sign anyone. I'm fully expecting this guy to never set foot on the ice in a Minnesota Wild jersey.

I didn't know Maroon's nickname was Big Rig. I think Guerin just likes size for the sake of size and no other reason than size.

Maroon probably thought he would never get traded to MN.

I'm not upset about the trade, as his cap hit is 800K. Has a completely different skillset to Walker, Beckman, or Rossi.

Nice. We add a cup-winning veteran and a long shot prospect for almost nothing.

I like it, I personally wasn't ready for Rossi, Beckman AND Walker to fight for regular spots. Especially when there 2 4th line spots open.

At least we have a veteran players to take up one of those 4 line spots that isn't Walker and Beckman who are both a little weak.

Guerin pretty much wiped out the senior roster when he took power. Having a savvy and winning vet in the room is good.

He doesn't need to play 82 games, but who knows.

As mentioned earlier, he adds a dimension to soft guys like Rossi, plus the physicality of Dumba is probably outski.
