If he makes playoffs with this kind of roster, he deserves at least 2 more years even if we get swept by Bruins or Pens.

I'm surprised how much blame Pete gets in comparision to Lou.

This roster is really not that bad. Problem is it is difficult to get going offensively in this system. So a guy like Ryder comes off as inept. Ryder had one less goal in almost 30 less games last year. Had more assists last year in the short season then he will have this year. Had 35 goals the year prior.

OK he doesn't fit the system.

Brunner? Less goals and less assists this year then last despite playing 10 more games.

He doesn't fit the system either.

So a guy like Ruutu should be great though. And yeah he had a nice little start. And I bought in for a moment. Certainly looked better then I expected. But then after 8 games of zero points? Oh yeah, this is exactly what I expected. A guy who fits Pete's system, but can't score.

Guys want to say Clowe has had a good year? And he is certainly a guy who should do well under Pete. But 6 goals in 42 games? I mean that is OK, but certainly not a thriving player.

CBGB? 4th liners I know, but Pete loves them, certainly Pete type players, yet the whole lot of em are in the depths of a brutal scoring slump. And these are guys who have played well for Pete in the past. What's the difference this year? I do not know, but for whatever reason they have all seen a major drop in production.

Zubrus? Is he not a Pete type grinder? Have we looked his statistics since January?

It's on and on with this roster.

And I blame Lou as well, but Lou earned the right to survive. Pete has not.

Sorry I disagree, Lou has not earned the right to survive since 2005. Pete and Lou are in concert with the system and the type of players that they have on the Devils, they are glued at the hip. Both must be gone to bring in another system of youth with speed and offensive skills. We have the D to take care of that end. I am not so sure we know where we are re: the goalie situation, Cory hasn't done the job to earn the number 1 spot even though I want him more than Marty to start. BTW Marty has to go as well, it's time.

I always liked Hartley and thought he got a raw deal in Atlanta...but it is still early in the honeymoon process there.

Larry quit twice, there's no way he's getting hired as head coach here for a third time.

Larry would never take the job anyway.

Please explain your thought process because I truly don't understand this....by 2005 New Jersey lost Stevens, Niedermayer...

2006 1st in their division - 46 wins 101 points

2007 1st in their division - 49 wins 107 points

2008 2nd in their division - 46 wins 99 points

2009 1st in their division - 51 wins 106 points

2010 1st in their division - 48 wins 103 points

Kovalchuk era or error begins....

Now...any GM in the league would KILL for these results...how has Lou been bad since 2005?

I think two more bad seasons following this one will finally rid us of Lou. 2015 is bound to be a stinker when this team will probably be worse, considering their advanced ages. 2016 is too far ahead though. So we're halfway home.

If he's back, I want Lou gone. I won't go to a game next year either. I won't support a loser of a coach and a bunch of veterans who have shown me they couldn't give a crap about playing hard for 60 minutes every night.

I just can't see it happen if we miss the playoffs. I mean it can't...right?

I would hope not. That would be a huge damper on the upcoming season. Just for the fact that it would almost certainly mean another year of the CBGB's, Harrold's, and another season w/o Larsson... pretty depressing thought haha

give PDB the 2009 or 2010 team and they probably reach the ECF both years. at least you know he wouldn't coach like a wimp once the post-season came.

That 2010 team I really loved...they set a club record for wins in the first half and at one point they were on pace for 60 wins, they dropped off in the second half drastically there was tons of drama in the lockerroom...

In my opinion that team was a physical center and a defenseman away from being a real contender...
They traded away a top 3 defenseman making an immediate need weaker and got Kovalchuk. They tried to address those exact needs the following year by adding Volchenkov, Tallinder and Arnott but they missed the window of opportunity in my opinion, especially in the defense group....Martin, Oduya, Greene add another Dman that would've been a solid group. Add a center to create a real 2nd line to go with Elias and one of Rolston or Zubrus and that team could've done something.

That was the beginning of what we see today...not DeBoer, not Lou, not 3rd line grinders. What a shame.

Still wish oduya was here. Underrated big time. And I gotta say I absolutely despised lemaire as that season went on and they started to downfall over the second half. Maybe even moreso than Pete right now, prolly not but close. But after seeing what he did with the maclean disaster I will never criticize anything he ever did again. 23-3-2........ill always remember that one down the stretch

Yup....just about everyone here was blasting Lemaire... they criticized him for juggling the lines constantly, they claimed his system was the "old NHL" and doesn't work in the New NHL. They called him all sorts of things.

New coach isn't going to fix us overnight unless it's a coach Q or a Hitchcock...which isn't happening. In the end the majority of the blame this year must go to the players. A team this age should NOT have issues with coming out flat footed. I think the dead weight needs to be trimmed (sal, volchenkov, gionta) and we need to have our kids on the blue line out every night. Oh and the goalie fiasco didn't help us one bit either. IMO do that and bring in a Boucher or a laviolette (sp) along with some decent free agent acquisitions and go from there...it can't get much worse can it?

People weren't thinking Lemaire had lost it or had an outdated approach because of one lousy half season though, other than the 2003 playoff run with the Wild he only won one postseason series after '95 (Montreal in '97).

The young player approach was a bit overstated though, he dealt with young players in Minnesota all the time. He was a bit 'harsh' with the kids his first go-around here in the '90's.

It definitely can get much worse and I won't be shocked at all if it does next year, especially if Jagr bolts, which at this point in time, I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I have a hard time believing he would go through another year of Pete's ****ery. If they bring in a new coach, then I could see him coming back. Unless they jettison a handful of the veterans and replace them with younger legs, then things might not be pretty next year.

I enjoyed skimming through those...

Oh did you notice Lemaire hated rookies too.

If you go back Sutter hated rookies, Lemaire hated rookies and DeBoer hates rookies according to this board.

Some overlapping players from coach to coach as well that some including myself thought should have seen more time (Bergfors, Halischuk, Corrente, Zharkov Tedenby, Josefson), but in retrospect, the theme between all of these players that we believe should be seeing more time seems to be the same not amounting to much

The difference though between PDB and Sutter/Lemaire though has been that when younger players are benched during a game for a mistake, they are given a chance the following game(s) to fix their mistakes - with PDB, a mistake and you are scratched for the game(s) following, an approach I haven't been crazy about

They also claimed that Hitchcock was a dinosaur and had no business coaching in the post-lockout NHL. Same exact thing said about Therrien. DeBoer and the guy who got fired in Columbus already (can't even remember his name) were the two hottest names on this board. Think about that for a second.

Hitch has only won one playoff series since the lockout fwiw...we'll see what happens this year now that they can't blame it on Brian Elliott. Therrien had one good run with Crosby/Malkin then was on his way to somehow missing the playoffs with them the next year. The Habs flamed out last year against a meh Sens team.

Anyway rehashing past debates isn't really answering the op of who should be the next coach :P

I have to be honest, the list of retreads that are available this summer is pretty underwhelming. And I don't know if we want to go with a rookie head coach again. Although we might not have any choice.

A lot of the problems on this team stems from the level of talent and not so much other things that have been blamed
