Who will be the Blues starter if Allen gets moved?

The Blues are making an upgrade in goal next year.

IMO I can't see how Steve Mason doesn't enter the mix. He doesn't want to be a back up and I don't believe the Jets want to pay a back up $4.1 million for another year. Surely some team (put your team name here) where it's been Death Valley for goalies wouldn't have some interest.

Wings will be looking for a cheap backup if Coreau walks, but that'll likely be by way of the nothing special UFA route, not through trade.

Yep -- add Barfalo to the list. Really hope Ullmark can step up in a full time role, but we need insurance.

By the way, how's Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen looking? Would be nice to see him in the AHL once Ullmark takes a trip down 90W.

Buffalo and Edmonton are probably the two teams looking for a starting goaltender.

We’re fine with Talbot as starter, he figured his shit out towards the end of the season.

What we need is an NHL quality backup/1B guy to push Talbs and not sewer the season if Talbot gets hurt by throwing up seven .875 starts - thanks Brossoit.

Not an AHLer that can’t hack it at the NHL level, not Al Montoya or a host of other scrubs. Ideally we’d want a Varlamov/Bernier situation.

If Coreau doesn't walk, it's because he likes playing in GR, not because he's going to be on the NHL club. That is unless Ken Holland blows all his cap space on UFA forwards and dmen and leaves himself $650k for a goalie...

I would imagine the Red Wings go two possible directions in goal:

A. They plan on exploring trading Howard at next seasons deadline/letting him walk as a UFA in 2019/or already know he doesn't want to come back - They sign an affordable #1B for a couple years that is capable of filling in if Howard isn't around after next season.
B. They plan on extending Howard - They sign a cheap stop gap #2 for a year or two.

As far as goalie needs, the Red Wings actually need to fill out their entire pro level depth at the position behind Howard. Technically the only other goalie under contract for next season is Kaden Fulcher, who's probably slated for the ECHL. Coreau and McCollum are both UFA's and it sounds like Machovsky has already decided to go back to Europe. Additionally, their unsigned draft pick goalies are all at least a couple years from jumping to the pro's (Larsson and Petruzelli), if they even get signed (Van Pottelberghe and Perry).

Avs will need one, but it's contract year for Varly so he will play like a mad man and we will end up resigning him only to regret it.

Calgary should be looking for a backup. Mike Smith was great but I don't even know who their back up was.

I said it last year as well, but Ottawa should be looking for a #1. Anderson is even older now (although next year will be his "good" year since he likes to alternate. They should have been in on one those backups last summer like Raanta.

the Isles are in negotiations with former draft pick Mikko Koskinen

in the regular season in the KHL in 29 games he had a.937 sv pctg 1.55 gaa 5 so
in the playoffs in15 games he had a.935 sv pctg 1.67 gaa 4 so

Koskinen has won the KHL championships two times

and at the olympics he had a.932 sc pctg 1.62 gaa

according to sources the Isles want to bring him back and let him eventually act as a Mentor to Stud Prospect Ilya Sorokin when his KHL contract runs out, or after next season if he negotiates a buyout
1. Koskinen would be an average backup in the NHL and frequently gets outplayed by Shestyorkin
2. Hasn’t he said he’s not signing with the Isles?

Calgary’s got their future starter in house in Gilles/Parsons, IMO. They brought in Smith as a stop gap and for most of the season he was pretty good.

On Mikko Koskinen

Igor Eronko
: Hearing that will be leaving SKA and will sign with an NHL team. Different sources are saying that Koskinen could be heading to the New York Islanders.
Aivis Kalnins: Sport-express is saying the Islanders are going to sign Mikko Koskinen on July 1st.

NHL Rumors: Bereglazov, Koskinen, Shestyorkin, Hutton, and the Panthers

what he denied was that he had already signed, SKA has already said theyll be going with Shestyorkin as their starter next year to prevent him from going to the rangers, who had been trying hard to bring him to the USA

More of a back up situation but the Leafs have 3 goalies in contention for 1 back up job; Sparks (AHL goalie of the year), McBackUp (Great back up for Andersen in the NHL), and Pickard (good NHL experience).

No idea which one will be the back up next year but it's unlikely that Sparks and/or Pickard can get through waivers again.
