Houle was an incompetent who was in over his head dealing with a bad situation that was really ownerships fault. It hardly matter if he was competent or not, because he was going to fail anyway.

Bergevin was handed a blank check to do what he wished and a gigantic war chest. He could have succeeded, and his own failings were the biggest thing holding him back.

Bergevin is closing in big time. The Roy trade takes the cake but MB has done so many death by small cuts trades that will be hard to recover from.
Trading Sergachev was worst. What was he supposed to do with Roy? Hard to get full value when youre tangled up. He had no choice, obviously Tremblay is his fault but still... Add to that Chuck, Subbaan... god damn.

Subban, Chuck, Rads, Sergachev, Markov, Eller all gone and he replaced em with

Weber, Domi, Drouin and Shaw.

Bergevin hands down. And it’s not because we have a short memory and we’re mad at the club right now. In terms of how bad he and Houle have teared down the team, they’re pretty close. But Bergevin will always be the worst because he’s an arrogant pos. Houle never wanted the job and he was an incompetent but nice guy. Bergevin says stupid stuff and he is shocked why people don’t think the same as him. He also believes working hard is doing his job. In summary he’s full of shit and he refuses to see it.

Not even close anymore...

Houle, as bad as he was, at least showed class and was operating with significant restrictions/limitations.

MB inherited a great situation as far as assets, an ideal situation as far as ownership support and freedom, a top-of-the-league financial situation (ability to spend to cap and spend freely on staffing)... and this is where he has "led" the franchise in 7 years.

he is building a resume that will put him among the worst GM's in league history.

Bergevin without a doubt. Although Howe gets the worst trade title. Bergevin had the world in front him when he entered and single handedly sunk this team.

I know we bash Bergevin but it's Molson who is the real a******. He is allowing all this by keeping Marc, by not hiring a President, by approving these trades.
Bergevin is BY FAR the worst GM-yes, but Molson is the jack*** who is enabling him.

Did Bergevin ruin the Canadiens? No. Geoff F****ing Molson did.

I wonder what this board would've been like when the Habs traded:

Vincent Damphousse for a bunch of pics (all of which went to waste... yay Marcel Hossa!)
Mark Recchi for Dainius Zubrus (what??? after everything we gave up to get him in the first place?)
Pierre Turgeon (at age 27!) for Shayne Corson

The Houle years were just traumatic. It felt like as soon as a player was good, he had to be traded because there was no way the Habs can be allowed to have good players. It was a complete and utter destruction of the team. It's just trade after trade after trade that made you want to throw your tv out the window every time.

I mean, was the team so poor that they couldn't afford anybody and had to sell everyone away? I know the canadian dollar was very weak back then but my goodness it was horrible.

Markov???...lol....come on man, He left the nhl and couldn’t even make his own national team for the olympics when no nhl players were going.

-Radulov left and is a Nashville castoff also
-DSP is a NJ castoff (formerly known as Smith-Belly)....and the ridicule that went on when we traded the Czech for him, it was an absolute tragedy, but now it’s a platform for ridicule....come on

-Pateryn......Irrelevant
-Morrow??...

Debrincat and Girard???....Girard is another Nashville castoff.....like your going so many layers deep to find shit lol

We never owned Debrincat
Andrighetto.....ya, ok lol

Galchenyuk, Sergachev, Eller and PK are our castoffs......make fun of that if you want, the rest is a reach.

I stopped reading after Markov??? FYI Markov just won the KHL championship. If he wasn't so loyal to the habs he would be on a stanley cup contender right now helping a team win a cup the same way the rest of our castoffs have. Still defending the indefensible? You do YOU and go down with that ship.
