I would rather go with Ortio as backup especially since he will be the cheapest and I think he'll do a pretty good job for being a back up.
Poor Ortio, season hasn't even started and everyone already wants to get rid of him.
He showed to be pretty decent during his run, much better than you all expected then. Lets see how he does before claiming guys like Griess/Montoya/Johnson are better options.....
Would be cool if we could somehow acquire Greiss.
That's exactly what the poll indicates too.Poor Ortio, season hasn't even started and everyone already wants to get rid of him.

What has Ortio accomplished?
What has Ortio accomplished? I do not feel good at all about him starting 25-30 games if we're serious about the playoffs. He's had a couple stretches where he's been okay, and a couple where he's been terrible including in the AHL. God forbid if Elliot gets hurt and he's the guy.
I'm sure he can be a backup at some point, but I'm not sold on him and it doesn't sound like the Flames are either. Greiss, Enroth and Johnson are far more proven and I'd take any of them over Ortio.
You must not have watched the Islanders much last season, Greiss was awesome and was better than Halak.
Ortio is fine, he's not a bad goalie, but I'm not sold on his upside. I feel like Irving was a way better prospect, he was handled so poorly by the Flames but I just don't see the upside with Ortio. He's not big, he's not spectacular, he's never been dominant for long stretches, and he's been bad for as long as he's been good.
I think he's going to be a regular backup in the NHL, but I wouldn't be sad if we lost him either. I think the only reason he hasn't been cut loose is asset management. I don't think he's in our long term plans.
There was a time I liked Irving too. But unlike the majority on here, I didn't blame his poor efforts on the team not "handling him properly". I expect a top young goalie to fight thru a little adversity, which he couldn't. With Ortio I took the same stance, basically the only guy on this board that said let's not right him off yet, let him show what he's made of. He showed with that much more than Irving ever did, while dealing with much the same situation. I think we have to give Ortio this year to really judge him fairly, and many might be surprised. He may also show he can't handle being a backup, but I'm going to take the wait & see approach.
BTW - he is the same size as Irving.
That's fair, for sure. Like I said, I'm just not sold on him. I look at him, I don't see anything special other than being a backup, which is fine. But there's tons of guys like him out there.
Also, Snipes you should go look at Chad Johnson's numbers. He had a really good year and was a nice surprise for Buffalo.
Bringing in Chad Johnson = Going all in for the Cup?
