M.Satan is arguably the 10th best player, and his career stats are very close that that of a guy like Jason Pominville. Satan was a better goal scorer, but Pominville was a better 2-way player.

If Slaf isn't better than those two, I'd say it was a failed pick. For that reason I said top 10.

Knowing HFBoards he will either, if having a good/great season or two, have passed all genetically inferior players of yesterday in 3 years tops or he will be a horrible bust that needs to get traded for a 5th rounder by year 2.

Yeah, the most ridiculous thing about this thread is Chara being an honorable mention instead of a Top 3 lock
For some reason casual Slovak fans always focus on the forwards, even Visnovsky doesn’t usually get the same respect as say Miro Satan, even though he was a really good player and extremely valuable for the national team. You can see it with the current batch too, it is Slafkovsky everywhere and Simon Nemec doesn’t exist… (that could also be caused by difference in personalities though).

Top 5 seems reasonable.

Hossa and Chara will be tough to match. Mikita too. I think Gaborik is beatable, albeit very different style. Stastny too.

Stastny is better than Hossa pretty much hands down.
Top 10 points finish 2-3-4-5-6-6, 6 in 8 years.
He has 6 consecutive 100 pts season.

Hossa only has 2 ppg seasons and 2 in the top 10.

Slafkovsky’s current season is the second best ever for a Slovak U20 player. Over the last 2 months his scoring pace would surpass Gaborik’s 67 points (the current U20 single season point leader). Mikita didn’t really take the big leap until he was 21-22.

Gaborik's was during the dead puck era. He was top 30 in NHL scoring with his 67 points. Currently, the 30th player in scoring has more than 67 points, even though there's still about a dozen games left to play.

Yup.

Gaborik also had a very uneven career though. In his 4th season he ended up with all of 40 points for example. Lots up and downs. Really good player of course, but I still think he can be topped. Slafvosky definitely isn't on Gaborik's level in year 2, but I still think he's been trending up very nicely.

I had initially voted 3rd in here. I'll optimistically stick to it. The way I rationalize 3rd:

- Does Mikita count or is he Canadian?
- If Mikita doesn't count, Chara is #1.
- I figure this allows for Stastny above him, and Slaf behind. It's possible.

100 points in the 80s = about 75 points from 1997-2016

just sayin

This notion that scoring points in the 80s is some how diminished in value is bollocks. He still finished second in scoring for the 1980s, 14 points shy of 1000 for the decade.

Having seen him AND Gaborik play, I'll take Stastny as the best Slovak player of all time.

Just sayin.

lol what does that even means? I'm not born in Canada even though I spent my whole life here. I don't identify myself as "generally Canadian"
Generally Canadian in the sense of Mikita considering himself as one and played for the nation internationally. You are looking too far into this.

i think thats part of the issue. youre disregarding the worst half of slafs season. if your not going to use the whole season than use gaborik's best two month span as well.
