4 years left at 6.5.
Bergevin knew he would never last this entire contract. Had Molson hired a Gorton type to supervise Bergevin crap like this would never have happened.

The way the contract was done there is a stupid 4.25 millions cap hit on year 2 of the buyout and 1.75 the rest of the time, could be annoying… Thanks Marc.

Our only hope is for him to come back healthy and also rejuvenated. No team will ever trade for him and buying him out does not make sense with 4 years left on his contract. It would count for $2.3 MM on the cap until 2031. Another issue is that he became way too slow and is not a good passer. Which means that he can only park himself in front of the net. Parking himself in front of the net means that he will keep getting beat up and shot at … and most probably injured again and again…

The blame is on Molson.... Gallagher contract end at the age of 35.... No way any one with a brain would think this player is worth 6.5m around the age of 35.

You know what? They also give him a NTC... So he can refuse trade with his NTC. Seriously guys, Bergevin must have some kind of blackmail on Molson.

6 years contract to a injury-Prone player at the age of 29....

His is a poison pill contract. No real advantage to buying him out.

He's definitely with us for the next 2 years, as he makes $8m then $9m over 2023-2024 & 2024-2025. Geezus f***ing almighty, what a garbage contract.

Last 2 years, he might be LTIR. If his contract is covered by insurance maybe we can trade him to Arizona, as they're in their College building for another 3-4 years, I believe. Gallagher's contract ends one year after Weber's.

Or, another team might take him on to help with Cap floor.

Think his future lies on LTIR. He's unable to stay healthy.

Armia, Hoffman and Gallagher are all garbage contracts. The real $$$ in the last two years are more than early in the contract, it's like they were made buyout proof.

What about Molson doing his job at the time? No. He was blinded by his love for the little warrior, just like Bergevin. Same thing for Carey Price. Why Molson agreed to this ridiculous contract given Price injury history and age? The answer for Gallagher and Price is the same, he did not want to trade them when it was time because he loved them like a fan, but he was not a fan, he is the freakin president and CEO of the team. Easy to blame only Bergevin, but I am not sure Molson would have given the green ligth to trades of these two players with one year to go on their contracts. Molson was not at all in rebuild mode back then. So it's totally irrelevant to compare that situation to the leeway HuGo now have.

Don't hate the player.

I loved Gallagher but what an albatross of a contract.....same with Price.

Old school contracts used to be get paid for what you've done.....nowadays, it's get paid for what are you going to do.

Bergevin never got this.

He looked so good in pre-season against minor league players. Some thought he was back and just need some time off.

Maybe another long summer will fix the overrated “heart and soul“ of the team?

What are you talking about?

Buyout starting next season has the following Cap cost:

Year 1:

792K

Year 2:

-208K

Year 3:

2.292M

Year 4:

4.792M

Year 5:

2.292M

Year 6:

2,292M

Year 7:

2.292M

Year 8:

2.292M

If the buyout was for only 1,75M per year, except for the 2nd year being 4.25M, I'd do it. It's much worse than that, as the maximum Cap hit is in year 4, a bad timing as contracts will need to be renewed...

Bergevin must've gotten a kickback from Gallagher (the .5M)?
