Martin Jones not only has a boring name and a boring personality, he somehow puts up historical playoff stats in a boring way:

For all goalies who have started more than 35 playoff games (since the 40's), a pretty decent sample size, Jones ranks:

#1 in goals against for active goalies
#2 in goals against for ALL goalies

#2 in save percentage for active goalies
#3 in save percentage for ALL goalies

This is all time great goaltending that Jones has brought since he's arrived in San Jose. And about 9 people who aren't Sharks fans are aware.

Another trade that DW made that he doesn’t get due credit for.

To be fair, nobody really cares about stats like this in small sample sizes. Holtby was the NHL's all time leader in playoff SV% going into the playoffs last year, but as soon as he had one terribad series against the Penguins, he became a choker, and his own coach decided not to start him for the playoffs the next year.

Also, doesn't Jones only have 33 playoff starts? He only played 2 games with LA and both as a backup. Still very very impressive and he is by far the greatest playoff goaltender to ever wear teal.

Jones also now has a higher playoff SV% than Matt Murray.

All the articles Ive read today are really slamming the Ducks, I believe they have zero fans right now. If the Sharks can get the first goal in game 4, I bet we will witness another epic melt down.

Jones has the exact same amount of games played and same GAA as Matt Murray. And a better save percentage. BUT...5 less wins and 2 less Cups. But his raw goalie #'s are better. Is Murray really clutch and Jones not?

Both are fantastic playoff goalies but it will be interesting to see how Murray does this year. Murray was far worse in the regular season this year than Jones was in either of the last 2 seasons. I also thought Jones was a lot better than Murray when they went head to head but Murray's team as a whole was obviously so much better.

Nah. Last night was the game they had to have. Sharks get a lead early and it's over.

Did anyone hear the national TV broadcast last night mention that the Sharks changed the way they play a quarter into the season? Apparently Doug Wilson stated during an interview that they took a close look at the play of Vegas early in the season and used the data they collected to change their strategy. Obviously the modifications payed off as they started winning as the new system went into effect.

I found it interesting that they were open to changing based on a new team’s success and give them credit for the changes they made. They are a faster and more effective team, no doubt.

Anyone hear something similar that can provide additional context?

They let the dogs off the leash so to speak. I noticed this in December. They took more risks, pushed the pace and were ok going punch for punch. They have the skill and depth to play this way.

Seems like a lot less dump and chase than in that 1st quarter of the season. More controlled entries and pretty goals now, less retrieve the puck, get it to the point, shoot from the point, get a dirty goal on the rebound. Thank goodness, because even when the team won, they were dreadful to watch back then.

The system change also allowed them to never really be out of a game. Sure they lost a couple lopsided affairs but they were always dangerous.

That’s honestly really impressive. Good on Doug and Pete for recognizing the systematic issue and changing it. Not a lot of GMs/coaches in this league are willing to change like that. This team noticeably got better towards the end of November/December and then the scoring really picked up. Meier’s improvement is a perfect microcosm for this change, IMO.

His surge aligns pretty well with it.
