IDK what happen to Lindholm and his chin, but I saw his instagram in the morning, he was smiling and commented that Getzy and Kes both said to him that at least he will have a good picture. It felt very positive, so should be fine. Looked like whatever thin beard he had, is gone on the chin tho

If they can't beat those teams (expect the Jets), no one can say they deserve to make the playoffs

It's put up or shut up time for this group now

he took a puck to the chin. blocked the shot with his stick and it ended up busting him in the chin. He was fine. He had ice on it when he was on the bench and in the penalty box, but he'll be fine.

as for the game: We didn't play well, at all. The fact that Randy is saying we are is scary af. Best game for our old guys though. Chimera had a really strong game. I thought Montour was our best defenseman though. He was playing with a lot of confidence. 2nd and 3rd lines were still ass.

I`m still not sure of how I`m feeling but I don`t feel even a bit sad. And that is knowing we didn`t play a good game at all.

I think it`s because missing the playoffs in our situation is not the worst thing.

Kesler has 9 points in 33 games. That's a pace of about 22 points per 82 games. Brutal.

It's time for him to rest and bring up Kossila, but it will never happen

It is brutal for sure. Thing is, I'm fine with that level of production from him this season if his role is going to just be a defensive shut down specialist and his line will be something like the Pahlsson Niedermayer Moen line of old. It's not what we are paying him such big money for, but given his injury I'll take that for the short term. But that only works if he can in fact play the defensive game at that level also, so the question for me then is whether he seems to be struggling on both sides of the puck, or if it is just the offensive game that is hampered by the injury. If he is struggling with his defensive game also then he should be shut down or at least given a severely reduced role down the stretch.

Also this only works if we have another line that can score, so at some point the Henrique line needs to get going or needs to have some personnel changes because right now our middle six isn't producing.

this is good and bad. because basically if we win the amount of games that we need to win, it means they didn't get the points they needed.

i'd like to make the playoffs just because i wouldn't mind watching PO hockey even though i have 0 hopes of going deep

Not me. If he's being paid to shutdown the other team and give this little in points, than the other teams line better not score one time. 7 million a year is too much for a center who's only purpose is to shutdown the other team.

That said, I'm willing to bet he'll be somewhat better next year. Not enough to justify that contract though.

Yeah I meant just for the rest of this season I'd be fine with putting him in that role and trying to make some lesser version of the 2007 shut down line with him as the centerpiece. If he's not back to being a great two way center next year that contract is going to look awful. I'm not saying he needs to be a Selke finalist but I'm expecting a 50 point season while shutting down top lines so anything less than that will be disappointing with that contract.

I'm not as pessimistic about Kesler's recovery as some. In his first games back after a gap in the schedule, he always looks pretty close to his normal self, or at least at a level that I'd be fine with for the coming season(s). He'll be overpaid regardless, he was the second he signed that contract, but I think it'll be a couple seasons before it's a cap crisis, and by then we'll have big salaries leaving anyhow (Perry for one).

Without the surgery I was always concerned how Kesler would age. He plays a tough, physical game. That kind of play doesn't lend itself well to longevity. Add in a very serious hip injury and it's hard to think he just isn't going to be the same. By how much is the $6.875M question. He's very much Cogs like in his tenacity and effort every game. He could probably be a great grinder into his late 30s. But for that money we really need some points. I'd be more than happy with 40+, but I am concerned that may not happen.

On the flip side the surgery could have a similar effect as Selannes knee surgery. If we can get 40-50 out of Kesler with good D then I'll be satisfied. I'd love to see him get back to 60 but I have a hard time rationalizing that.

Doubt he ever hits 60 again. Most likely 45.
