Ward played like garbage in the Montreal game. I don't care if he was good through two periods, he let in two absolutely horrendous goals. The equivalent of what Ward did would be Staal scoring two goals through the first 40 minutes and then taking twelve minor penalties in the third before defecating at center ice in a one-goal game. Actually, no, Ward was worse than that.
Thanks for dropping by. I'm wondering, will there be lingering effects after recovery? Will he still feel it for a few months or the rest of his life, or will he forget it ever happened after the two months are up? I know you said yours wasn't as bad, but do you recall any lingering effects?
I think with any knee ligament tear, you will always feel something from it. Similarly, I don't think you ever forget an injury because you always remember what caused you pain/to miss starts. Soreness is the main thing I have heard, and something I still encounter, especially with atmospheric pressure drops. I know it's going to rain tomorrow because my knee gets sore.
As for lingering effects, I don't think anything besides soreness will occur. The ligament gets back to strength once it heals. I wasn't really ever given a rehab plan, something I'm still a bit displeased about...but a lot of it is psychological regarding the future. You have to trust that your knee is healed, and that you can do everything you used to do. For me, I try not to let it affect my play. However, when anything iffy happens to my right knee, I immediately question how my MCL is and if it's ok. I still make the same moves and blocks I used to, I just try to limit excessive torque on it.
I can't believe only playing 1 game in Dallas before he was traded in 2004, or that he lost his job to Rinne in 2010 are better indicators of what to expect than how he's played for us this season.
Some of these guys who would be 'decent' starters just float around for a while, either being a backup on a good team, or the starter on a bad team. But if they ever find their way into being the starter on a good team again, they play well. I'm predicting that's what we see here. The guy seems to have the tools, and the Canes have the ability to provide some goal support. Should equal success.
So like a .910sv%?And by miracle, I mean "having the greatest start to next season he's ever had".
Most of us have faith in Ellis, he's been a starter before and a pretty good one at that. Peters has been ripping it up for Charlotte and is one of the big reasons they're where they are in the AHL standings this year despite all the injuries and callups.
I think what most of us want at this point is someone who's capable playing in Charlotte now that Ward's out. Muse is solid but rather unproven at that level. But beyond him? there's absolutely nothing. Sucks that Mike Murphy left on such bad terms and that Andersen spurned the Canes this past season as both would be in position to be #1 in Charlotte right now if not to be the callup instead of Peters. I don't think many of us are looking for someone outstanding, actually probably closer to someone that would be available for futures but that is at least a capable AHLer. We don't need a star there, since Ward should be back for the playoffs if that timetable is accurate. We just need someone that can keep Charlotte from falling off the face of the earth until Peters can be sent back down.
edit: won't be surprised if they take the NCAA FA route once that season is over shortly here. Someone like Andy Iles (Cornell), Eric Hartzell (Quinipiac), or Casey DeSmith (UNH) would not surprise me in the least. Most likely one of the later two to be perfectly honest.

I'm thinking it'll be Andy Iles. He was at our prospect camp this past summer so there's already a relationship with the organization and I don't see there being too much demand for him. I don't think he really has any nhl potential but I'd like him to help out in Charlotte. They had a good thing going until we raided their roster.

Thank you for your insight. Sounds like my thought of a Greiss ++ for one of your top 9 forwards is a non-starter. You don't really need NHL caliber back-up (unless Ellis proves you wrong over next few weeks). We do have three AHL caliber goalies that we have problems finding enough playing time. Maybe Rutherford calls Wilson about our JP Anderson. But sounds more likely they tough it out in the A until the NCAA season ends.
Hope Ward has a speedy recovery.
If we had Murphy or Andersen, we would not have signed Ellis. Both would be competing with Peters (or whoever JR could find in desperation) for the #1 job.
"prospect graveyard"
we've had our big share of prospect deaths too
Like every other team in the league.
