his D was fine, but we really need him to hit the shots he is supposed too. Would make it much better for the team though you can say that About Lowry as well I guess

If you really need Ross to check Wall and Pierce is at the 4, just put James Johnson at the 4. He's about average size for today's 4 and has the strength to handle the offensive responsibilities of a 4.

Which is why I said in the other post put Ross on a short leash, and use him for D only situations if he cant hit shots.
If it were me I would do for D spots like this
Lowry
DD
Ross
JJ
PP

Or
Lowry
DD
JJ
PP
JV(though no chance of this because Casey logic, who needs rebounds!)

Does anyone know how Val performs when other teams go small? Casey said he doesnt play val because he cant keep up when teams go small. Is there any logic in that?

It's true, he doesn't have the foot speed to guard guys 15+ away from the basket and then recover for rim protection or boards. This is why you'll see him sagging off high PnRs more than other bigs (as opposed to hedging or showing hard to prevent the PnR from being run), which opens up either pick n pop opportunities for the other big if our guard dives under the screen or allows the opposing guard entry into the key if our guy follows him around the screen to chase him off the line.

You'd think he'd have a field day at the other end of the floor but Casey's shown he isn't willing to sacrifice the D for those post opportunities.

Well, it's not like this team could get much worse defensively given how bad we've been in that regard all year long. So much for "defensive minded" coach Casey.

Pretty pumped. Nervous too. Hopefully, Casey plays JJ. Hoping for a huge game from Lowry. They have no answer for 2Pat, which is a match-up waiting to be exploited. Need to rebound, last performance was abysmal.

Can't let them back in this. But them double teaming Derozan could make for an interesting night.
