Now that Germany is taking a 3 pt win from Switzerland, in which order will the teams be considering the playoff rounds?

Germany, Latvia and Russia will all have 6 pts. According to IIHF, if 3 teams are even, then the goal differential between the teams mutual games will decide the order. So it would be:

Russia 2.
Germany 3.
Latvia 4.

But there is also a rule that if two teams are even, the winner of their game wins. So it would be kinda weird that Russia would go before Germany even though Germany won their game against Russia?

Did I get this right?

Should three or more teams be tied on points, then a tie breaking formula will be applied as follows, creating a sub-group amongst the tied teams. This process will continue until only two teams remain tied. The game between the two remaining tied teams would then be the determining tie-breaker as the game between these two teams could not end as a tie.

Step 1:
Taking into consideration the games between each of the tied teams, a sub-group is created applying the points awarded in the direct games amongst the tied teams from which the teams are then ranked accordingly.

Step 2:
Should the teams still remain tied then the better goal difference in the direct games amongst the tied teams will be decisive.

Step 3:
Should the teams still remain tied then the highest number of goals scored by these teams in their direct games will be decisive

Step 4:
Should three or more teams still remain tied then the results between each of the three teams and the closest best-ranked team outside the sub-group will be applied. In this case the tied team with the best result (1. points, 2. goal difference, 3. more goals scored) against the closest best ranked-team will take precedence

Step 5:
Should the teams still remain tied, then the results between each of the three teams and the next highest best-ranked team outside the sub-group will be applied.

Step 6:
Should the teams still remain tied after these five steps have been exercised then Sport considerations will be applied and the tied teams will be ranked by their positions coming into the Championship.

Note: If not all mutual games have been played yet in an ongoing tournament, the tied teams will be ranked in the standings according to the following criteria: 1. Lower number of games played, 2. Goal difference, 3. Goals scored, 4. Positions coming into the Championship.

I think TSN said Canada has to win by 3 goals to finish first. Is this correct?

All teams earned 3 points in in-between games. Russia has the best +/- with +3 and leaves the subgroup. Latvia has won the direct encounter with Germany, so they qualify?

Looks like most of the fans are on the side of the camera, also sounds like a decent number of US fans, (probably parents).

Both Canada and the US have very talented and skilled blueliners, but the forwards are a whole lot of average.

Russia dosnt leave the subgroup, you take the best GD for all countries in direct matches. That leaves us with the worst meaning we are off to relegation with 3pts.

Who is this kid nr. 11 in the U.S, J.T. Compher? I've only seen him for a couple of shifts but he plays really good. What are his potential for next years draft?

Canada plays Russia in the 1/4? Hehe, those teams did it again, and managed to screw up in the group stage.

Better Dansk than Vasilevski, unfortunately for Russia. Russia has some pretty good forwards, most notably Nichuskin, Yakimov and Barabanov (Slepyshev has looked very average during this tournament), but the defense is as usual weak and slow. When you have a below average defense, you need stellar goaltending as an offset. Vasilevski seems well off his game since the WJC in Calgary. He should have been the difference against Germany, but he seemed to be a big part of the problem. Maybe they were'nt his fault (the first goal the Swedish forward was let in alone), but his failure to make big saves resulted in the team being down 2 goals to Sweden 8 minutes into the game. Against Sweden, who plays so well on defense, that proved to be too much. Now they have to look forward to Canada. They need more from Vasilevski among others.

This answers the question from Zorz who wondered why the Russian coach didn't pull the goalie at the end of the RUS-GER game. I didn't know the rule at the time, but the fact is that Parfyonov's decision not to pull the goalie maintained the goal differential for Russia's losses at 2, thereby allowing Russia to finish ahead of Latvia and Germany.

yes, FIN-SWE is most likely a semi-final this year. if FIN loses to GER, they should all consider retiring immediately. ;)

Russia was actually pretty good 5 on 5, they took quite a lot of penalties though. Not sure who the favorite is going to be in their quarterfinal, I think they could raise their level significantly.
