Tucson wins 5-4 in OT, 3 point night for Strome. 3 primary assists.

Van Ryn has Tucson with the best % in the league at 5-1-1

So Van Ryn is running Tocchet’s system here and it’s working. Key difference is the RRs have been getting some goaltending too.

Strome is now in a 3 way tie for first in rookie scoring. He’s played 6 games. The other guys have played 8 and 10.

Leave him there until the parent team figures their shit out. Keep Tucson going.

The first two periods were a mess last night, constant penalties, no flow at all. The RR got engaged towards the end of the 2nd and got some nice cycling going. Pederson cleaned up a loose puck that rolled off Strome's stick for the first one then Bunting cleaned up a point shot rebound for the second. They put Latta on Strome's line in the third and he swatted in a puck the Wild goalie juggled the rebound on.
With the goalie pulled, Strome set-up Latta with a beauty cross ice pass he finished back door. In the 3 on 3 OT, Strome took the first two shifts playing with two D, which was odd. Finally they put Strome and MacInnis together and Strome immediately sets Mac up for the game winner. Nice to see MacInnis use that shot, he's a different player this year.
Latta is not fast but he had a Gordie Howe hat trick. Crouse is getting top line/top PP minutes and generating chances, he and Strome actually PK'd together and got a SH chance.
Langhamer had 59 minutes of shut out Friday night with Miska on the bench. Houser plays in a Fort Wayne loss Friday night, then is backing up Miska Saturday in Tucson. The Coyotes trade for Wedgewood in Jersey Saturday and assign Hill to Tucson so it looks like Langhamer just lost a game of musical chairs.

Strome named AHL Player of the Week

Excellent. The way Strome is doing well makes me feel more optimistic for his future. It also makes me want to check out one of the games in Tucson this weekend.

Still not out of the woods just yet but definitely feeling better. Plus this is giving him some confidence and helping him keep adjusting to being in the pros.

The Monsters tied it up on a fairly long shot.

Hill caught on his patented over-aggressive wandering almost costs us another one.

Wood has been third pairing up through tonite, turning the puck up ice quick is the antithesis of Wood in his own zone.

Capobianco is a much better fit for the quick transition game, great judgement. Needs time as a pro to adjust to the size and speed still.

Merkley had a great game, he set Strome up all alone in front in the 2nd. Then Pederson with the nice feed to Merkley on his goal. Fitting the goalie chose him to commit the coup de grace.

Garland actually generated a scoring chance off his stick handle through the whole team routine in the third, no idea why he's on the top PP in place of Merkley.

Goalie rotation continues with Miska getting the start and Langhamer re-appearing as back-up, Hill scratched.

Good to hear Merkley is doing well, he missed a decent amount of hockey with his injuries in junior but he's still got potential.
