Canucks right side right now only has Tyler Myers and RFA Troy Stecher.

Its looking more and more likely that they are choosing to walk away from Chris Tanev.

Dhaliwal is speculating the Canucks will go after Shattenkirk if they fail to land OEL.

What kind of term and AAV is Shattenkirk looking for ?

I suspect he would be a short term stop gap plan for the Canucks like a Tyson Barrie , assuming those players are okay with a short term 1-2 yr deals. Then the Canucks will go big game huntin in 2022 when all their bad contracts expire and big names like Seth Jones, Morgan Reiley, Matias Ekholm, Adam fox, etc become free agents.

But OEL is a LHD. They still need a RHD, no?

Not interested in him we need a defensively strong defenceman not worried about PMD. Dylan Demelo should be our priority once Friday hits. He's a poor man's Tanev I've read but a great guy to have. He won't cost much either.

Tanev want too much money?

Dreger reported that if Tanev goes to Free Agency he will get paid way more than market value because there will be a lot of Piterangelo "losers" who will fall to Tanev as plan B.

Dreger claimed 5x5 is easily going to be attainable for Tanev in the open market.

Personally thats way tooo long for me especially with Tanev's injury history. This coming from a Tanev fan

How does he compare to Brodie? I am guessing he gets at least 5x5.

I love Tanev. But that is too much and for too long. I wish him well though.

I thought Shattenkirk didn’t wanna play in Canada?

Just because he didn’t want to play in Edmonton doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to play in Canada unless I am missing something. I know he refuses to lift to ntc to go to Edmonton when the hall for shattenkirk trade didn’t go through because of that.

If he’s able to get 5x5 I will be happy for him. I love tanev and will hate to see him go as I believe there will be consequences benning will have to live with. If he does please go east. Thanks.

Shattenkirk had his weaknesses hidden again on a really good team and some team is going to make a mistake. Vancouver would be stupid to go for him, you already have a younger/better PP specialist and Shatty is not going to be able to mentor Hughes on how to actually play the defensive side of things ... I do not think it is a good fit and I am a Shatty fan. He just has to be put in the right spot and protected from his very weak defensive play.

Tanev was pretty bad in the playoffs. I watched all the Vancouver games and he stood out to me in a very bad way. It looks like he's lost a step or two. He was consistently slow on recovering dump ins, slow to move the puck and getting beat with speed on zone entries. Unless he was playing hurt, there's no way he's worth $5 M

As I said elsewhere, Shatty is a unique player. He has incredible offensive instincts for a defenseman. He will score some huge goals. He can move the puck very well, too, and he is a great locker room guy. On the other end of the equation, he is a train-wreck defensively and will directly lead to multiple goals against. Too much money or term will be an overpayment. He is best in a bottom-6 role where he is sheltered and a team can figure out how to maximize the pro/con situation.
