Ottawa unless it becomes a disaster
I thought I read an article last season from Garrioch that he was living in Florida while he recuperated? Did he move?

Maybe while he was rehabbing he was down there.

He went from Buffalo to Toronto to Ottawa because he wanted to stay close to family. He posted an Instagram pic a month or two ago about his daughters first day of school in Rochester.

Perron for speed, Neal for strength, either for a handful of goals while getting on the opposing team and their fans nerves. I love having those guys, hate playing against them.

Spezza's one of my faves but even a 2nd round pick would be an overpay at this point. I'd at most give him a 3rd if we have further injuries and expect no more than a PP specialist. Not because he's slow, he's just lost his identity as the go to guy.

We would really have to throw everything into this year and maybe shed salary to go after both those guys... GMGM will want picks/prospects and that would really start to empty the cupboard

Doing nothing is always an option.
I would nothing obviously barring an irresistabke trade offer.

I would rotate the callups chlapik Paul whomever else. See how they practice here. If. non of them have won over coachs trust make some moves. I really think chabot needs some playing time up here to truly make wideman expendable for a trade for a depth forward.

I supposed we could try the same sort of deal with Buffalo.

Moulson is in much the same situation as McGinn. 6M owed gets knocked down to 3M, Ottawa shaves off a year and gets a player who can play. Buffalo saves a it of cap for two years and saves 3M in salary for an unwanted contract.

Ideally it would be Pominville instead of Moulson since he's a much better player, but I don't think Ottawa has the assets

Wonder if we bring up white for now atleast till the deadline

I think speed is something Boucher likes so that is key in whoever we get

I think Wideman is expendable if they can move him for anything that would help. at any time.. Chabot is there , they know he can come up and play... until then let him eat up minutes

White has been playing well from what I can gather in Belleville... I think he could use some more games down there.

At 7.5 million yeah no thanks.

At 2 million ? Bargain. Everyone has their price.

The issue I have with Spezza is that you have to commit to him in a role that he would want to play - which means top six.

Can he handle that over three or four rounds of the playoff grind?

If you could throw him out in the bottom six and occasional PP time, great, but not sure if that is possible particularly in this market where he was a superstar.

I love Spezza, still think people who said he hurt the sens chances at winning don't know anything about hockey. I don't want that contract though.

Spezza does not do defence, remember.
So I think he would not fit well into the Senators neutral and D-zone defensive systems. He would fit great on the PP; however his salary and term could be an issue as he has another year to go after this season.

I don't really get that take. I think Wideman is fairly under-appreciated. His shoot-first mentality helps create lots of chances. I really like him on the back end. As a winger, sure, he's expendable. :)

Wideman can play well offensively and on the PP.... He is a UFA at the end of the year.. He is pretty regularly the D that sees the least amount of ice time so his under appreciation starts there I would guess. I am not in a rush to move him, but if they could improve the team by moving him , why not.

were in an interesting spot... really only one piece left to add this season so if we go after it they have to be a 'perfect fit'

will be interesting to see how it unfolds/who becomes available by the deadline.

I can see the team trading one or two D-men beforecor at the TD or next off-season to create room for Chabot and one of Jaros, Englund or Lajoie. The Defensemen who may go include Phaneuf (high salary and declining due to age), Wideman and possibly Borowiecki. I am assuming Oduya will be gone too.

Yeah circumstances need to Ben right. Too right. But hes not so bad that I would refuse him at all costs.

I'd wait a couple weeks (3), Ryan and Smith will both be back. then call up Chabot and White

Trade Wideman for futures, or package him with Smith for a middle 6 winger upgrade;

Hoffman-Duchene-Dzingel
Ryan-Brassard-Stone
Smith/upgrade-Pageau-White
Dido-Thompson-Pyatt
Extra: Paul/Rodewald

Claesson-Karlsson
Harpur-Ceci
Chabot/Oduya-Phaneuf

Extra: Boro and one of Harpur/Oduya

1. The team is never trading Borowiecki. As much as everyone might want it. He's going to retire In Ottawa with 600 games played. Book it.

2. Oduya is going to get games over Wideman, Boro, and especially Harpur. Games played is built into his performance bonus structure and the team will want to give him a fair shot.

3. We're probably going to lose Wideman for nothing. I don't like it because I think he is a good player, but if we trade him, we're still going to need a depth guy and Wideman (with his familiarity with the team, players, and Bocuher) will be as good as anything we're likely to find. Might as well just keep him. Lajoie , Jaros, etc.. are not ready. Chabot is going to spend most of the season in the AHL unless everyone dies from the Spanish fl. Wideman is worth more to Ottawa than the 3rd rounder we'd get for him.

4. Claesson is Karlsson's long-term partner. I don't know why it isn't a "thing" yet. It is obvious to everyone. We need a video where someone puts them on the kiss cam together with a heart around their heads.

5. Ceci and Harpur looks like it might work longterm. I'd like to see more of it. Harpur will need to kneecap Boro and Oduya for playing time though.

6. Some are suggesting that Phaneuf will declin or is currently declining. I'm not seeing it yet. He's off to one of the best starts he's had offensively in a decade. When he was playing with Wideman , he looked fantastic. If anything, I tihnk he looks like he'll get another contract from someone after this one. He's 32, no long-term injuries, plays 70+games and gets 30 points like clockwork.

7. Playing with 7 D looks like a long-term "thing". Boucher seems to like having more defense-men in case of injuries mid-game and penalties.

8. I want to see the following for a 5 game stretch:

Claesson Karlsson
Harpur - Ceci
Phaneuf - Wideman
