I havent look into it and it as probably been mentionned here, when is the last time a player like Pacioretty(goals, contract, age, etc) as been available at the deadline?

Not a deadline deal but in the summer of 2013, Bobby Ryan was coming off of 4 straight seasons of 30+ goals, and a more disappointing one in the lockout year.
2008-09 - 64gp - 31 g - 26 a - 57 pts (21 yo)
2009-10 - 81gp - 35 g - 29 a - 64 pts (22 yo)
2010-11 - 82gp - 34 g - 37 a - 71 pts (23 yo)
2011-12 - 82gp - 31g - 26a - 57 pts (24 yo)
2012-13 - 46gp - 11g - 19a - 30 pts *lockout year* (25 yo)

A situation eerily similar to Pacioretty who's not going to hit 30g this season. Ryan was traded for Silfverberg, 1st in 2014, Stefan Noesen.

EDIT:
Earlier in the thread I compared the Ryan-Silfverberg trade to the Iginla-Nieuwendyk trade but it turns out they're completely different. Bobby Ryan is actually the type of trade I don't want the habs to do. I can understand what the ducks were trying to accomplish though because they were still a good team and wanted to compete right now. Silfverberg was a player who could help right now. But the moral of the story is that they traded a guy who was consistently hitting 35 goals and 57-70 pts for a guy who is more of a 20g-45pts type player, and Silfverberg wasn't even a 20g-40 pts guy yet at the time of that trade.

In the previous thread that's what I meant. If we insist on getting a player with NHL experience this is the type of player we're going to get.

From what I heard.

Pacioretty is available. Asking price is 3 or 4 pieces.

1st round pick
2nd round pick
Roster player
Top Center prospect
This type of return just isn't going to happen.

How many top centre prospects are there? Pettersson, Glass, Andersson, Mittlestadt, Vilardi, Thomas, Borgstrom and Steel? Vancouver, Buffalo, Vegas and Florida would probably have no interest in Pacioretty. Leaving Steel, Thomas and Vilardi as our targets.

So:

Steel/Thomas/Vilardi
2018 1st
2019 2nd
Roster player

That is a massive ask from any of these teams. Ducks and Kings aren't safely in a playoff spot and a Pacioretty away from cup contention. A couple more injuries (theyre already missing their starting goalies) and their 1st can be a lottery pick. From St.Louis, centre is their biggest need. Left wing is their strength. Trading Thomas and having pacioretty take up cap space they can use on a centre isn't smart.

Trade deadline: Wednesday, February 28th.

... continue discussion here.
We need a sparkplug. I remember when the Dead Wings brought in Yzerman. The first couple of years you just went to watch him and gradually Wings management surrounded him with the tools to create a powerhouse that made the playoffs for 25 years in a row not to mention their Cup successes.
I’d like to see us go after a sparkplug like Barzal. Would Price plus for Barzal plus Halak work? How about Weber ? If we lose Weber maybe Patches to Edmonton with Nurse coming back. It has to start somewhere.
A good management team drafts talent and develops players to fill roles. Think high scoring juniors Carbonneau or Houle becoming defensive specialists who still had the ability to pop one when you needed it most.
You have to sculpt your team and that takes a GM with the ability to see the team he aspires to build and then drafting, trading and signing the right UFA’s and most importantly DEVELOPING the young talent to fit their places in the lineup.
This won’t happen overnight and quite frankly not with our current GM and his supporting cast.
It all started many years ago when arrogance won out over knowledge and Grundman was appointed GM over Scotty Bowman. Had Scotty got the nod, had we drafted Denis Savard our history would be much different from 79 on.
I turn 65 in March. I have enjoyed the glory years. I want the prestige and honour of the Canadiens restored and selfishly I want a few more cups in the next 10 years.
Go Habs!!

Thank you for the info.
So a Pacioretty retained at 50% as more value than Ryan. I would hope we get 2 good prospects, a 1st and a 2nd.

First of all, that roster player, forget it (not you specifically but those who think they can get that). No playoffs team is going to trade a roster player while making a push for the cup.

Then people say that they want a top center prospect in return for Pacioretty. I get it, we need one badly but that deal just might not be there and it's the type of thinking that could cause us to miss on a much better deal.

If we can get a really good young PMD for Patch, and then trade that PMD for a center Jones for Johansen style... that's another way to do things. Although, might as well just keep that player since we need that too badly.

Can’t wait to watch this board erupt when 2:00 pm comes on Feb 26th and Patches is still a member of the Canadians.

Other top center prospects...Brett Howden with Tampa,Michael McLeod Devils,German Rubtsov Flyers,Jack Roslovic Jets,Josh Norris Sharks and also Jankowski Flames ,Jost Avs,and Eriksson Ek Wild they are already in the NHL.

Trades are hard.

If Patch is still around, he better have traded Plekanec though. If we resign him, I will be filled with even more hopeless despair.

Avs fan coming in peace, is there any chance Drouin is available? I get you guys just got him in a trade, but I would love to have him in Colorado.

Here's my blockbuster trade proposal:
To Col:
Drouin, Galchenyuk and Petry

To Montreal:
Barrie, Timmins, Kerfoot, Colorado 2019 first, Nashville 2018 second

Would a deal of Patches a 2nd and maybe Byron to Colorado for Ottawa 1st would work? If we could get 2 picks in the top 5 it could really accelerate our rebuild years.

his "worth" is a purely subjective thing...

But the odds of said worth being greater this time next year are not favourable.
It doesn't appear as though his "worth" is that favourable now either, at least based on what I'm reading some would trade him for here.

Again...1st + a top prospect

Vs

Martin Hanzal for 1st + conditional 2nd last year at the deadline, as a UFA.

I think Pacioretty's "worth" more than what some seem all to willing to settle for.

How do I put this nicely, that is one of the worst proposals I have ever seen.

What are the chances the Coyotes take Price from us? Nothing they've done so far has worked and they don't have any great G prospects from what I can see.

Price signed a retroactive NMC meaning he doesn't leave unless he wants to.

0 chance, unless Bergevin is fired.
