Just did a quick scan of all of Bergevin's trades...

The only other trade that's similar in terms of him trading a younger player for an older player was when he traded Travis Moen for Sergei Gonchar.

There's literally no other "Subban for Weber" type of trade in his history as GM of the Montreal Canadiens.

Andrighetto for Martinssen.

A younger skilled player for an older "character" player.

A 24 yo 4th liner for a 26 yo 4th liner isn't exactly a monumental trade.

I'd be surprised if either is in the league in 3 years.

I mean Sven did put up 15 points in 19 games in Col and looked to have good chemistry in Colorado to the point where they will most likely protect him in the ED.

Its possible it doesn't work out but if he puts up good numbers it could turn out to be another marchessault or at the very least those few good years while the Avs rebuild could carry him into another couple of contracts.

Marty there is no excuse for. he does nothing well

It goes far beyond trades and you know it man. Its not as much about age as it is about the type of player and style of play he and his cronies adulate.

The infatuation with no-nonsense, no flash, grind dem out, meat and potatoes, supposed "character" types like Prust, Murray, Bouillon, Shawzy, Weber, King, Ott, Martinsen...Hiring a clown coach who preached risk averse grinding above all and had no clue how to better use and develop his skilled oriented players. Hiring his best bud who seems like a carbon copy of MT coaching-wise to develop the team's future.

He made his team look like him. A talentless 7th Dman who made a career out of going for the "safer plays" in the dead puck era.

The pattern isn't making monumental trades, it's about overvaluing supposed hard working players over skilled players. We see it in the trades, we see it in the signings, we see it the guys he hires, we see it reading between the lines of what he says.

Vanek, Briere, Ryder, Sekac, Parenteau, Semin, Radulov, Fleischmann...
