I, like most here, rip apart most proposals, while not making many of my own.

So, once a year, I make sure I put out a proposal that will make me feel how others feel when I tear apart one of their deals

so here is my deal and I figure there will be no middle ground on the deal

Oilers trade Hopkins and a 2022 2nd to the CBJ for Laine.

This deal only gets done if Nuge agrees to a new deal with the CBJ PRIOR to the trade happening and he signs the moment the trade happens.

okay have at it and I admit, I can only see the deal from the Oilers side. Nuge is a good two-way player, low maintenance. And does his job

No, we have enough of those players already. If CBJ wants him, Jarmo will pick him up in couple months and keep Laine. And quit trying to poach a 50g sniper with a UFA and 2nd. Go ahead and pay him 7m and call him a core piece and be happy.

At least wait till tomorrow before creating another "Oil fans talk crap about Laine" thread.

Given the replies to the other Laine to Edm trade proposal, the add Fromm CBJ is either Jones or a draft pick

There is no 50G sniper in this proposal.

If I'm Columbus, I'd rather fire the coach and bring in someone that fits the personality of the guys on the roster. I'd trade Savard, Foligno and Atkinson, while bringing back assets and opening cap space, and build around Laine, Jones, Werenski, Domi, Jenner, Foudy and Korpisalo. I think they've got a solid core. They need to find a 1C, which I know can be hard, and re-shape the top of their current group. If they do that and get Laine back to playing like he's capable, they I think they could be back to a quality playoff team in 2-3 years.

The Oilers arent adding value for what he might do with our 2 players.

They would be trading for him for what he is.
Rental for a 2nd OA RFA with 100+g and 22.

Sorry, I'm still waiting on any value...

RNH isn't enough because we don't need another 2C when we have Roslo, Domi, Jenner, Texier, Foudy. Plus he aint good enough to be a #1C and is a UFA. Want to talk about Negative value...I'll take RNH if you throw in a 2nd. And yes, thats without giving up Laine.

IDK how many times (threads) we have to explain this to you guys.

if this did happen columbus turns PLD into RNH, Jack Roslovic and a second. that’s not bad but the optics of RNH and a second for Laine doesn’t look good

The point of this trade is Edmonton converting a core player about to be a UFA into one that isn't. The problem is that there is no (?) evidence that the genie can be put back in the bottle like this. The extensions for Turris, Pacioretty, Stone and Pageau helped their value, but not to the extent that it unlocked a good NHL player with control in a hockey trade. It may be a case that there's a window, say the peak value years of a player (RFA age), to make a hockey trade for a player in a similar window and when it shuts, it shuts for good.

Laine is closer to a 5 goal floater at the moment and hasn't recorded a point in 8 straight games.

The OP mentions rnh is resigned but just a second for an overpriced PP specialist seems more than fair to me. The oilers are just about to rid themselves of some awful contracts, last thing they want to do is tack on another. Easy pass.
