Lafferty with the Hawks 82 game pace 34 points
Lafferty with the Leafs 82 pace 26 points (4th line minutes)

Anderson Leafs 82 game pace 17 points (4th line minutes)
Anderson Hawks 82 game pace 21 points (higher minutes)

That swap itself is pretty bad even if Lafferty isn't more than a bottom 6 winger, Anderson is an AHLer.

Gogolev preferred to opt out of his contract in order to go back to the Toronto ECHL team he was on.

McCabe has been discussed at length on here, but he's provided grit and the ability to play half of our shutdown pairing like Muzzin was doing for us and succeeding. He's signed for 2 more years @2M. This itself is insanely valuable, probably more than the Leafs paid for the entire package.

A 2nd in 2026 isn't a player you will see in the show until 2030 or later. That 2025 first likely 2028 at the earliest.

It's an absolute slam dunk for the Leafs on paper at this point in time.

I really wasn't sure about the move since the Leafs have had good defensive numbers even with multiple injuries but McCabe has been really good. I feel like Gio has slowed down a bit as the season has gone on so having him down on the 3rd pair really helps with that

I think that's just a natural fact of life for a player Giordano's age. He's got a lot of miles on him, so losing a bit of steam as the season wears on should probably be expected. Seems like there's a lot of value in having a guy like McCabe who can soften that load and maybe help set Giordano up to be a little bit fresher/less worn down come playoff time.

McCabe played an essential role in helping the Leafs get to the next round. He was steady 95% of the time he was on the ice with very little mistakes. Not to mention he had a handful of huge open ice hits throughout the series. Happy the Leafs have this guy at 2m for 2 more years!

This trade doesn't get enough love

2022 deadline saw:
-a rental Manson @50% go for 2nd+ Helleson (highly regarded former top 60 pick, 6'3 RHD prospect ready to turn pro)
-Kulak for a 2nd+
-Chiarot for a 1st+
2021 deadline
-Savard rental 1st+3rd (+4th for 3rd party retention)

Leafs pretty much got two years @50%+ Lafferty for free (with 2 5th rounders coming back as well)

Havent been impressed by Lafferty but Mccabe has been amazing. He was instrumental in shutting down Tampas top line, frustrating Point and Kucherov all series. A solid 2nd pair, shutdown defenseman for 2 more years at 2 mil makes him one of the best value contracts on the team
