looking for a top 4 rhd for Edmonton with offensive abilities under 28 what would it take to get one of the following players:

Vatanen
Faulk
Barrie
Dumba

Or maybe a guy with top 4 potential who could be a bottom pair D like and a PPQB:

Pulock
Deangelo
Montour
Andersson
Honka

Obviously guys like Hamilton or Klingberg could be on here but obviously their teams wouldn’t give them up short of a massive overpayment. I tried to keep it realistic to teams that have depth like Calgary or teams that are looking to rebuild/retool like Colorado.

Not sure it's worth the price for Edmonton. The Oil should look to pickup a cheaper, quick-fix to the top 4 until Sekera comes back. I'd suggest Mike Green but I think his value has increased to the point where it would cost too much.

Edmonton's problem isn't primarily defence, but the lack of an offensive supporting cast to McDavid - and Talbot is a low-end starter.

We`ve Ryan Mc, but he shot left so that is that. I doubt the Oilers have the pieces for us. We need someone who can play good 4th line minutes instead of AHL god Paul Carey who is 1 pts. in 13 games, and someone to replace B. Smith with horrific defensive reads and lazy start of this season. I can also add Holden in that category they both cost us points last evening in this brief evaluation. :)

The very guy I was praying and lobbying we trade for all f***ing summer, and a guy I still want, but yeah his value is up now. He's playing at pretty much an All-Star level. Chia should've been looking to improve the team instead of standing pat (or arguably downgrade at RW -- still need to see what Pulju can do with his chance to finally play with Connor next (hopefully few) game/s).

There is really no excuse for it. We probably could've got him for our 1st, and he would've improved our team quite a bit -- even just the PP alone would probably have an extra 4 goals, IMO, (or possibly a couple more), and just one of each extra PP goal in any particular game can decide it, or set a pace that instills confidence in our (mostly) young team. Our 1st rounder should've absolutely been available to upgrade our team in the hopes we'd make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs -- if we got there, and I think we'd be in a better position with Green in our line-up -- probably at least 4 more points, IMO, if not more. Just dumb, dumb, dumb by Chia to sit on his hands. I digress. Still f***ing sour about it.

Doubt Chia makes a move for any big name at this point, as he'd have to pay through the nose -- though he seems to usually enjoy doing that, so who knows. But I think if we trade for anyone it will be a lesser known, and hence cheaper to acquire, defenseman.

Oilers need help on the PP, RHD and speed on the wing. Some toughness would help as well. Declining or low cost contracts might be of interest when McDavid/Draisatl deals impact them next year. Proposing the following players:

Barrie
Comeau
Ghetto
Nieto

For

Klefboom
2018 - 2nd
2018 - 3rd

Highly unlikely they'll include their 1st, with Sekera expected to return with the next 1-2 months they can afford to trade a LHD which fits the need of the AVs. Barrie is the RHD they long coveted and much needed help on the PP. Comeau expiring contract will provide toughness for a deep playoff run. Ghetto and Nieto speed on the wings.

Tony DeAngelo is likely on the table just saying RHD - a young promising puck moving PP specialist. He had an assist in the minor last evening too, but we have Shattenkirk so we don`t really need him who is a similar type of player. But I`m not sure what J. Gorton want in return for him.

I can see Dumba moving at some point before his contract needs renewing. I don't particularly want to move him and I think it's about 50/50 that doing so will backfire, but if the Wild need to make significant changes he's one of the most likely pieces to move.

His defense is still spotty and he'll probably never be a shutdown guy, but he defends at a middle-pairing level if he's with someone responsible. Plus he's only 24 and has continued to show progress over the years, so it's not like he's a finished product. I'm not expecting his new contract to top $4m, unless he blows up for the rest of the season.

For Edmonton, RNH for Dumba was discussed 2 offseasons ago. Reports were that Chia wanted a 2nd added and Fletcher wouldn't do it. At this point I don't think the Oilers want to trade RNH, as much as his name has come up on the boards. I'm not really sure who else Minnesota would target, realistically.

If true, DeAngelo is now on the table by his 3rd team in 3 years? Wouldn't that raise a few flags?

I would think at this point, it would be best for the Rangers to keep him, put him in a stable (AHL) situation and let him develop, no?

I`m positive he is on the table for the right deal, and he is developing while we write this in AHL. He is only 22 though and defenders usually take additional years to develop. :)

They certainly do take time, would just raise some red flags if he is being offered up by his 3rd team in just over 3 years.

Going by many threads on here, it would take a lot. Dmen...especially top 4...double especially RHD are very valuable.

Lets put it this way, if you are an Oilers fan who thinks you lost the Hall/Larsson trade, then forget it....because that's the new benchmark on this site for acquiring Dmen.

Detroit was not moving their best Dman entering a new arena. He is likely available/moved near the TDL when Detroit is out of the playoff race.

What can the sens get for Cody Ceci? Currently our RHD behind Karlsson. Will be RFA and easy to sign to a cheap deal .

For McDonagh you want someone who can play the 4th line and replace Brendan Smith when he's actually playing good now? Am I reading this right?

Smith & Holden were -2 last game - he had some misreads, and Holden passed it to the opposition which ended in our own net 1 min left of 3rd period vs Florida.

The Avalanche would trade Barrie if it got them a non protected 1st rd pick in 2018, LW Tyler Benson, G Stuart Skinner

Avalanche are in no hurry to trade Barrie unless one of kids shows he is ready. Also he is playing great this year.

Two things;

- Dumba is 23.Turns 24 in the summer. Makes 2'ishM. Likely to be signed for 4M, give or take, depending on how he finishes out the season.

- RNH makes 6M. The Wild can NOT take that on, unless someone like Ennis goes the other way.

I also don't see the attraction of RNH. He's OK, maybe even good, when he is playing well. Overpaid , softish "meh" when he's not. He is not the answer to the Wild's problems.

I don't see that trading Dumba from our suddenly thin D is the way to go. Maybe if we package him with another asset, and we get an impact player....don't ask me who.
