The worse the older players get, the smaller the risk becomes.

Our record has been just fine early on for the last 2 seasons when we've played more rookies. I mean for example Backstrom has missed the start of the both last 2 seasons. He played 39 games last season and 47 games the season before.

Our record in the last 82 games with him: 35-40-7 (77 points).

Our record in the last 82 games without him: 43-25-14 (100 points).

(I'm not saying Backstrom is the anchor that sinks this team but calculated the number using his numbers given he has missed the start of last 2 seasons and played the latter parts of the season)

I hope like hell that Nicky finds another gear this coming season (just one he’s had before), cause if not? It ain’t going to get much better.

That said, I DO wonder what’s a 3C Nick (PK and PP specialist) would look like. Get him off top 6 ES minutes, but certainly use him on special teams where speed is far less relevant, and hands/vision/puck sense are far more relevant.

It could work. He just needs to be prepared to change his approach.

Yeah, that's just really bad.

They gave him way too long last season to "get up to speed" with big minutes when "up to speed" was like 35 on the freeway clogging up the lanes behind him. If he can't be honest with himself coming up here, somebody is going to have to be honest for him if he doesn't come back looking actually good this year.

That with/without record is anecdotal at best. I’d wager a deeper analysis would pick that apart, but who cares really? I wait to see how he looks when they report, then I’ll worry about it.

We did see those games though, and many of us pointed out the difference in speed and attitude
