Well I admit I was wrong about the current contract being bad

But this one is really bad. Most likely it won't matter because we won't be contenders. But if we were contenders it would be a terrible contract. Every power forwards ages like milk past 30.

Would love for Wilson to prove me wrong.

I love when GMBM gets something like this done which inferiorities both Caps Fans and the mains.

So happy to get this done. 6.5M AAV is fantastic. While 7 years is long, probably appropriate. It wasn’t 8 and by the time the last two years comes around 6.5M will be a nothing burger as the Cap goes up. Bravo GMBM. Well done!

It’s not bad on its own. I think Wilson can age well. He’s got the dedication and competitiveness to do it. He’s been willing to work and mold his game as his career moves on.

The cap will certainly jump up. Teams can easily handle an aging contract like this… even if the player slips a bit. The problem is when they have a handful of them. Fortunately caps will lose a few of those poorly aging contracts here soon.

Welp, time will tell whether this was a wise move. I'd rather a lower aav for the term or a shorter term at that price. 43 is no longer the player he was a few years ago and if the trajectory continues this'll be an albatross before it's half over.

This says “Next Captain” deal to me.

AAV is fine….would have preferred 5 or 6 years, but it won’t matter after 8 retires.

I’m sorry, you must have missed how well he produced after returning from injury.

Sure, he‘s not out there running guys all night long if that’s what you‘re missing….

43 is not injury prone. He had a knee injury and he came back last year a lot more productive than Backstrom. He will be a 1RW for 3 years and probably middle 6 captain, PK specialist the last 4. As the cap goes up 6.5M will be reasonable for that role especially when you add all of the intangibles including being a great captain.

Welcome home Willy!
