Had first earthquake in North Carolina a few years ago. Was super weird.

All my family in New Jersey have been talking about it ALL day.

Wild for sure. First time I've ever experienced a quake. Considering it was a 4.8, we should be thankful it wasn't a 5.8 (10x stronger) or 6.8 (100 times stronger).

Read there was a 3% chance we could get one at 5 or greater in the coming weeks.

Then again, there is a better chance of any one of us winning the PowerBall or MegaMillions jackpot....


Still...one good thing about this : It made us AWARE and start to pay attention.

Like... before this, I had no clue what "Drop, Cover, Hold on" was until I looked at articles about the quake.

If this ever happened again (and I was at home like I was yesterday), you damn straight I would drop down and crawl under my desk ASAP and wait for the tremors to stop.


EDIT : BTW, the strongest quake in NJ history was about 250 years ago and that was a 5.3 (that's probably what the 3% (5 or greater) is about, and if that's the worst to expect, we should count our blessings)

We felt the quake here in central CT too. Felt like my entire house moved, but just once. No sustained shaking or anything.

I do think it's amusing that it was such a big deal to us in the Northeast, because we never experience seismic activity. Whereas for people in California, that would just be what happens on any random Tuesday.

One of my freshman year roomies was from Utica and would bring that back for us from time to time. It was better than Rolling Rock if memory serves.

It was ok. I was a little creamy like a Genesee. But it was a decent enough beer to sit outside in the cold and watch it get dark for 3 minutes.

Wife and I have been working on starting a family after getting married 9 months ago. About 4-5 weeks ago we found out she's pregnant, and just yesterday we had the ultrasound and found out it's twins. 2 more Devils fans coming right around the start of next season.

Very happy about that though I realize the first year or so is gonna suck that much more now.

We dated a very long time before I proposed, so I told her parents I'm just making up for lost time lol

Just filtered through a couple of my eclipse photos. Glad we decided to leave today and not yesterday. I heard the roads were a disaster.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll hear this a million times, but yes...it does go by fast so enjoy every moment, even when you are surely quite sleep deprived a few months from now. My kids are 15 and 13 now and I'm already dreading them being out of the house in a few more years. I think it's awesome to have twins - have a good friend that had twins a few years back that my wife would help watch and it's not as much extra work as you might think. You'll surely get the hang of it quickly.

The roads were awful on the way home. We saw the eclipse on the lakefront in Burlington, then left at 6:30 pm on Monday. Didn't leave the state of Vermont until 2 am, and got home around 4 am!

Seeing totality was still worth it, but I was exhausted the next day after driving ~10 hours straight.

We stayed in Poultney VT and drove to Stowe VT on eclipse day. Took us 2 hours to get from Poultney to Stowe, but 5 hours to get from Stowe back to Poultney.

I went to Old Forge NY to watch the eclipse and stayed the night then went over to Manchester VT the next day through back roads all to avoid the traffic. It was nice...but the towns up there weren't ready for the onslaught of people they got. Restaurants were running out of food and closing early even the next day in Vermont... I was shocked Manchester was so ill prepared.
