Confirmed with Link: The Washington Capitals and head coach Peter Laviolette have agreed to mutually part ways. (UPD 4/17: Forsythe and McCarthy gone too)

Nothing on this coaching staff should be coming back..especially Murray. Good grief he has shown to be a crappy coach.
I have no issues with Scott Allen, who did a good job with the PK (especially given the lack of PK specialists like Hagelin), or the video coaches. Agreed on Murray, though.

I largely agree, but he has had many missteps since Trotz walked out.

IMO he should stay, but this should probably be his last coaching hire. He needs to make sure his next coach isn’t someone with a short shelf life.

Every GM has missteps, some more than others. Even good ones have some bad moves. He's also had some really good moves. He's also been slightly hamstrung by having two aging vets who are untouchable and declining but needed massive new contracts. Imagine who would get the blame if we didn't resign Ovi, or Backie? If the answer is Ted, then BMGM is operating with only a partial share of the salary cap because, for reasons, we had to spend $18M on two guys on the very end of their career.

One has to wonder if Ted and Bmac had this discussion:

BM: We really need to start the rebuild
Ted: Yeah but we need to support Ovi's chase, so lets just keep tinkering until thats over
BM: Sigh, ok, but there's only so much we can do with all these aging contracts.

My assumption is that Forsythe's and McCarthy's contracts were up along with Lavi's. And it's very possible the remaining guys end up being canned (or reassigned) when a new coach comes in, if that coach wants to bring their own with them.

I agree. They can’t give the keys to the castle to someone, and force them to work with the current butler and gardener. This is fluid, IMO.

Lol @ Murray staying…that will be good for some exploding heads. Allen….meh. Does he know Carberry?

The other two are video nerds….admin roles….they can stay if they’re good.

Surprised about Murray, but not Allen. But it occurs to me that maybe Mac talked with Keumper and Chuckie about Murray and they had positive things to say. Who knows?

I doubt they tweet out something as concrete as "they'll return next season" if it weren't settled.

Seems like putting the cart well before the horse — unless it IS Carberry, and that’s what he wanted

I agree. But AFAIK, they can't talk to him while Toronto is still playing, so it may just be that these guys are still under contract and ownership doesn't want to pay new guys.

Agents do agent things.

“So if Spencer was ever to be a head coach, would he ‘try and steal’ any of the names on this list?

Obviously we are just taking a poll here,,to understand the value of these names….”

I hadn't seen that Tweet.

Seems like your instinct was correct.

TEB ($$):

McCarthy’s and Forsythe’s contracts were due to expire June 30.
...
Washington’s other assistants — Scott Allen, Scott Murray and Brett Leonhardt — are staying, the team said.
...
Although the Caps don’t publicly disclose the status of coaching contracts, Allen received a multi-year contract when he was promoted from AHL Hershey last summer and, thus, was already under contract for next season. Others are receiving extensions, it’s believed.
