I do remember Gilmour was relatively good at driving play, but what do you think was the reason? He’s obviously fast as hell, and a pretty good puck mover with a pretty good shot, but nothing really stood out to me. Did I miss something?

Very good game from Tony D. Even when Pionk is healthy Tony needs to be in.

He’s actually a better partner for Staal than Pionk is because Tony is prob the best on the team at breaking out so Staal spends less time in his own zone.

When he gets the puck, he generally gets out with it, as opposed to around the boards, around the boards, around the boards.

Honestly, I think it was his ability to gain control of the puck on the defensive boards that helped the most.

There is this constant narrative that he is bad defensively, but it's actually his biggest strength. He uses his stick to get the puck from guys on the boards very consistently (or he did last year at least) and then he has the wheels to get to open ice and start the break out.

Best player on the ice was ADA. 21 corsi for, 8 against.

Last year, Pionk never skated it out, that was the issue a lot of us had with him. He's gotten better at it as the season as gone on this year though.

I remember him being good at stick checking with an active stick, but I also remember a good amount of defensive lapses.

What I meant was a comparison to Pionk today, as Pionk seems to skate the puck out instead of making breakout passes.
