A Morey special!! Letting a young promising bench piece go

Isiah Joe
Bassey
Springer

Consecutive years too if memory serves. He either cuts them for no reason or as part of some scheme to bring in a washed vet

When will you people learn that Morey is hot garbage?

I knew some people were going to riot if Springer was traded. Reality is, he has no offensive upside. If you didn't mind losing Thybulle there's no reason you should be bothered by losing Springer. He's not useful in the playoffs.

Edit: I would have thought the return for Springer would have been a little more though.

Springer is younger today than Thybulle in his rookie year. There's plenty of time to develop a shot and a functional skill. And straight up, Thybulle can't hold Springer's jock as a man on man defender. At least Springer can dribble aimlessly careening into traffic as opposed to not dribbling at all.

When Thybulle was Stringer's current age

I seent it.

.....who has left his team's biggest weakness untouched all offseason lol. In fact, they even lost a major piece and he wasn't even replaced!!
Best of the worst really makes you think doesn't it? Howie is overrated. Danny B isn't trending towards a positive direction. Morey is a head scratcher with dumping some of these young guys. It's all an endless cycle of suffering from one sport to another.

I'm trying very hard not to yell. This one broke me a little.

Thybulle is one of the all time great tests of what the hell you're looking at as an NBA player. He's a roughly average 3 point shooter when teams don't bother to guard him AND he takes only the easiest shots in existence. He's taking 3+ 3s a game this year or whatever it is. Great. Now can he even stay at that level when teams are interested in closing out? No. Of course he can't because having pterodactyls flying at you is what makes shots difficult. It's Ben Simmons in an empty gym. It's performative.

And as for his defense, again, no one in the league is more interested in or comfortable with playing ball handlers from behind. This can kinda-sorta work when you have a very good rim protector behind you. But this is why his defense falters when he has to guard high end NBA initiators. They're too good for that.

So... I'll be that guy. I loved PatBev with the Sixers. He was better than I thought he'd be. That said, I think it's kind of... "eh". I don't think he would have been a difference maker. Falls into the "nice to have" category. Really not sure about Lowry but he might be more of a net positive. If that's actually the plan
A team that went out like soft bitches in last years Playoffs just traded two of their dawgs that might have actually been able to put a stop to the sulking they are prone to.

I said myself that Morey has to play for the next season and the season after that. Naturally, a great plan is to dump a promising young player signed through those seasons while shuffling 2nd round picks and expiring contracts in a way that doesn't build for that window at all.

Morey has never fooled me. Dude doesn't have a plan, he's just shooting from the hip. He also loves his washed vets, so get ready for a new crop of those with the 70mil in cap space we should all be excited for.

I assume this is a response to me. I also assume you forget when he shut down Curry for an entire game a few years ago.

Regardless, the subject is Springer's futre. I see at best a smallish defensive specialist coming of the bench. Not something especially useful to the Sixers now.

It's why I hate the NBA.

Firing Howie is never silly.

No, that's silly. Morey enacted a plan that has a fulcrum point of this summer. You see what happens there.
I can't wait for the Demar DeRozan triple ultra max. Or even better, someone like Paul George for some reason while they have Maxey

Morey is garbage. Whatever he does with the 70mil will be....puzzling. Let's say puzzling. Zero faith in this loser.

Edit: I meant to type poser, but I'm keeping this

And this is the point. The Sixers are in a position where they could be marginally better when the smoke clears than they were before today. None of the players they sent out are going to be especially missed (except PatBev and that's more emotional). They're not committed to any of these acquisitions long term and they will have lots of cap space to play with.

I've been plenty critical of Morey in the past but he clearly has a plan and is sticking to it. I'm certainly not going to criticize him for that.
