I'm with lou, use the weather to your advantage. I get the financial appeals of a domed stadium, but I don't think you can just discard the benefits of an open air stadium to the team on the field if you build the team to fit the stadium.
And what kind of team is that? Run heavy team with a top Defence? That’s been how it was been done with soldier field.

fair enough, but regardless of the field we're assuming we'll eventually have a GM who can do his job properly. We haven't had that for how long now?

If we have that GM, I think it's cheaper/easier to build a team that consistently puts out good lines and can grind than something that relies on a bigger combination of skill/speed.

Kinda sucks they ruined Soldier Field so badly during renovation that it got taken off the list of National Historic Landmarks, and just a couple decades later will be moving out of it.
Soldier Field after the remodel looks like something that flew in from outer space. Couldn't they have designed it to fit into the character say like the columns?

I hate the idea of Bears becoming a dome team

I get they want it so they can have more events at stadium but the Bears playing in dome, f*** that

Wouldn't be the same without Bears weather.

Not familiar with soldier field but did it have the bones to accommodate better remodel for the size of the city? Maple leaf gardens, Boston gardens, the forum, Chicago stadium all got replaced.

Having been to those old buildings and they all had a diffent feel to them, they were very cramped. You could put the old buildings inside the new ones that's how much larger the space is. Could they designed Soldier Field better I will say yes, how a new design might have been done I don't know.
The old buildings they did remodels to add seats and some extras . They did everything that could be done within the space. More room was needed for todays game experience so we have the buildings with a larger footprint and most of all a lot more of a money maker.

This is something that looks good but there’s no way they can do all of that.

Although I say that because Philadelphia tried this redevelopment thing and f***ed up royally and all we got was a restaurant.

Yeah its not going to happen

And being its city/park district behind it any redevelopment will be a prolonged and underwhelming mess

That’s going to be 10 years, minimum.

The train station I’m guessing is not there.

Bears getting the Big Ten Commissioner to basically take a step down in title for a "mere" franchise presidency is a majorly impressive move.

That being said, expecting any substantial public monies for the new stadium in the suburbs is a fool's errand regardless of who is in charge.

Not too familiar with these NFL entertainment districts. NFL stadiums, if open air in a colder climate, have limited use between October to April.

For non football game weekends, do these districts get that much traffic through the year?

Acrisure Stadium has a casino on one side and an entertainment district with a music venue, nightclubs, and restaurants on the other side, they get quite a bit of traffic year round

Fair or unfair, this was expected to anybody really paying attention to state and county politics. Downstate and Chicago legislators united for easy PR points from the get-go to oppose any state tax breaks to such a degree that basically everybody covering them down there knew that the Bears bill was DOA.

And the county is run by Chicago, the political establishment for which is all pissed at the Bears for leaving. So they’re not going to get what they want from the county and were obviously going to tax the Bears at the recent property valuation based on the Bears’ own purchase price.

All that leaves in Cook County are the suburbs, and none are individually big enough to remotely give the Bears what they want.

These were all obvious from the start, and yet the Bears went through this whole rigmarole and even bought the land clearly with no plan if literally anything didn’t go unreasonably perfect for them in the realm of public cooperation. It’s just nonsensical.

And sure Bears, look at DuPage County or elsewhere. Then be surprised at NIMBY resistance all-the-while paying Cook County taxes out the wazoo on the now albatross land.

Wonder if "JB" is still opposed to moving the Bears and White Sox.

Honestly (and I'm not Chicagoland) I don't understand why both teams claim to need new stadiums. Use your existing ones until they rot.

4.6 billion?

What makes this and SoFi so much more expensive than say, Allegiant or Mercedes-Benz?

I'm sure the reason is in an article that I'm just too lazy to find and read right now. I imagine it has something to do with a whole district around the stadium instead of just the arena.

Yeah, seems like they want to build up a whole area and redo the existing public transportation and infrastructure and they’re lumping that into the cost.

Reading that article it reminded me a lot of what just failed here in KC. Both teams promising a bunch but delivering little on details (and in the Chiefs case it was a truly pitiful effort). I think most voters and residents have seen this play out enough times, hopefully the people of Chicago tell them to fund their own stadiums.
