It actually kind of even sounds like Calgary took less to keep Hanafin from fully dictating the trade terms.


A Serg trade might make more sense, to keep us from spending 25m on the left side. Only so many minutes.

You would have to think he would give the best return of anyone we could make available. If a team wanted him as their top option offensive defenseman, he's worth a haul. Our issue is Hedman is likely still our top choice for another couple of years.

It sounds like JBB played it smart with Hanifin and it will be a real coup if he's able to snag him out of FA next year (sorry for your loss of futures Vegas!). The trades for Duclair and Dumba seem fine or even good on their own, but it all hinges on Vasy returning to form next year regarding of a deep cup run. If Vasy can at least get back to his B+ form, these additions plus maybe one more forward next offseason might be enough. Next year's draft is looking pretty sad now though, with our highest pick being a 5th rounder.
