Lol @ Bolts fans trying to **** on this deal. It's a 6th and a nobody for a serviceable bottom pairing D. It's not like the habs will be playing him in the top 4.

Good trade for the Habs.

We're not ******** on the deal? We're just glad he's gone because he's awful. He would've walked at the end of the year anyway so I guess it's a win-win. You got your injury replacement and we got AHL depth for a team heading to the playoffs and an extra pick.

We're trying to tell you that he's not a serviceable bottom pairing D unless the definition for that has suddenly changed. At least he hasn't been on the Lightning hence all of us celebrating his departure. As for the deal itself, we don't really care.

Well you're defensive

We are telling you what kind of player you are getting with Nesterov, he's awful, pretty sure none of us care at all what the return was.

Quote a Lightning fan who's **** on the deal, we'll wait.

He will be better then Barberio. These types of trades are MB speciality. Byron and Danault were considered by many to be fringe NHLers when they were acquired. They are both much more then that now. Racine and a 6th may as well be free.

Dale Weise for Rafaël Diaz and Weise & Fleischmann for Danault and a 2nd 2018 were good deals also. Good job by Bergevin.

Would not call him awful, he may have stuggled under Cooper. Sometimes a player just needs a new atmosphere to find their game. I see this deal as setting up a bigger deal in the near horizon. Tampa lost another big game last night so that point of no return for the season is getting closer and closer. Anyway good luck Nestea.

Not really like that, and you'll like the guy. He gets too aggressive at times and pinches too deep, but he'll drive play a bit as a 7th D and you can't ask for much more than that.

We're more annoyed that Sustr is far worse than him, yet plays 14-20 minutes a night for us... and we wonder why we're out of a playoff spot.

At least he's versatile, 13th fwd or 7th D and he should most certainly be an upgrade. Adding more Russians is always good too, it's a subtle move for the Montreal Comrades.

No chance that he is worse then Barberio, Johnston and Redmond. All guys who have sloted into the 6 role for the habs this year.

This kind of reminds me of the Brett Connolly trade where we traded a guy just to get him off the roster, because the guy behind him (then: Drouin; now: Koekkoek) is better than the guy Cooper keeps playing.

During the Habs game last night, one of the talking heads mentioned that Tampa thought they would lose him if they put him on waivers. I guess this deal gets them what they wanted, a Dman in the minors with a free pick thrown in.

Weird that tampa bay from all the teams in the nhl are gifting montreal. Tense playoffs rivalry between these two

He is a Trojan Horse on Montreal roster now.....Nesterov is good in O-zone, but he is terrible in his own zone and also when he has the puck.

He's a turnover machine and taking penalties trying to make up for his numerous errors.

In a limited playing time, he will do ok. But if he get more than 10-12 minutes a game, his weaknesses will get amplified by 10.

Only worth a 6th rounder and not even a peewee more.

How does such a minor move garner such foolish jabs between two fanbases?

The Habs received a depth player who might benefit from a change of scenery. The Bolts got a minor leaguer and late pick for a player they wanted to demote. It works out for both teams. Even if Nesterov only plays limited time in Montreal and then leaves the Habs lost pretty close to nothing while the Bolts get a late pick to experiment with. This is a minor deal that may or may not help both teams, why are people sniping each other over something so minor and stupid?

Both teams should be happy, and the fans should be equally content to see how it develops.

Man, people really just like to take the **** out of others for no good damnable reason...

A 6th with Al Murray as your Director Of Amateur Scouting is a good return for a 7D/13th forward rental. Bolts have done well with 6th/7th round picks. Wilcox, Palat, Peca, Gusev, Dotchin, Vermin , have played in the NHL this year, and Gusev may come over next year.

Just a fair hockey trade. Habs get depth, Bolts get cap space and a return for a player leaving at the end of the season, and probably being waived anyway before then.

I noticed a few weeks ago when Hedman was hurt Nesterov was playing on the first line and the first pp line. Was the team trying to pump up his minutes in order to trade him? Seemed odd given how bad that team has been for the last few months and the fact that he clearing was doing anything with those top minutes.

From Tampa beat writer, quotes from Yzerman

"If he wasn't going to play, if we put him on waivers, we think we'd lose him," Yzerman said. "Just changing our roster a little bit. We were able to acquire a draft pick and potentially not lose a player."

Sounds like Yzerman was going to send him down and didn’t think he would clear waivers so he shopped him. That 6th round pick must have been the result of a bidding war.
