John tavares is the crown jewel of the isles organization, and is currently a top 10 player. Not only can the leafs not aquire Tavares but neither can any other team in the league, and nor will they try. John tavares will be an islander for life imo and his legacy will be with them. Would love to have him but he's going to be signing an extension with the isles within a year and continue trying to help them won a cup. Best of luck to him and isles fans.

Which is why the Leafs wouldn't even pursue him the cost would be far too high. We're doing the rebuild the right way. We have our Tavares in Matthews. And no, I'm not comparing their play, just saying that both are franchise players and should be seen as untouchable.

Sadly this is true, imo it was different with stamkos as he was kind of down on the priority list for Tampa with kucherov, and hedman being more valuable for the bolts( and they still found a way to sign him to a great deal). Tavares is the islanders best player game in and game out. He's a stud and I don't see any realistic trades that the isles would do involving tavares. He could very well be the highest paid player in the league if he want too be, i expect he returns to his 85 point self for the remainer of his deal.

all very true. I wish all thought as realistic as you. Hes from Toronto so he has to come here type threads just need to stop already. If Stammer didnt leave TB...JT is def not going anywhere. this time next year JT will be committed to the Isles for 8 years.
