Boston Globe TARA SULLIVAN: Word is out that Bruins players had their say in Bruce Cassidy’s firing. It’s a risky revelation.

Ha, you're not wrong. I'm absolutely in the camp who wanted to see them together, but I'm also just a fan, not a head coach who needs proven results.

Montgomery will just be a repeat. Decent coach, won't have the necessary personnel to get past the top teams. I'm just frustrated seeing longtime posters shove blame on Cassidy when we still have the same management that has failed time and time again at the Draft and Free Agent market.

A guy that played for him in 2004 went on a podcast and ripped him. Are you saying players shouldn’t talk about coaches or stories from when they played? People talk, it’s not like the players are making tweets about Cassidy. It was leaked because people talk, just like when Cassidy coached Washington.

The iPhone wasn’t even out yet. No one listened to podcasts in 2004. And if they did on the PC it was very few

Right but I’m saying people knew about Cassidy’s reputation as a coach back then even without that stuff. Today athletes have a bigger platform to talk about inside things like this. Personally I think it’s interesting getting a look behind the scenes.

I was responding to the inmates running the asylum comment, just pointing out that it’s always been that way in hockey, pro sports and professional settings in general. There’s even a phrase for it, “lost the room”.

Leafs fan coming in peace.

This is a major nothingburger. I know nothing about the journalist, but it seems that she is trying to create an issue where non exists because it is well known in sports that players can play a role in a coach's ouster. This is hardly unique to the Bruins now is it?
She is writing for the Globe , just another pompous ass , entitled , Globe writer that feels they can say and write anything they want , even if it is not what they say it is...................See Mike Barnicle, another real gem..............John Henry doesn't care what they write against the Boston sports competition.......

No. It wasn’t ever like that before.

It’s interesting and all, but I don’t see how it’s the slippery slope that she‘s suggesting.

I mean it’s not like Cassidy was here for a year and a half and the players formed a mutiny and management caved.

7 years is a long time and common sense would dictate that the players opinions would come into play.
I agree, but I believe she's suggesting that now that it has worked once....

The article doesn’t serve much of a purpose other than a way for the people who wanted Bruce gone for some time to read what they want to read. There’s very little of actual substance in there.

I also don’t get how it would be a “risky revelation”. Players take issue with coaches all of the time at various levels of the sport. This idea that because a coach’s voice got old after a number of years that players are going to have overall management say is amateur.

To bad that you even have to ask. I have never you met you face to face. I am willing to bet we would get along fine.
I think we would too. I’m not attacking you or anything, I just don’t see it as a big deal. Coaches have a shelf life. Most get fired for performance, some get fired because the players don’t like playing for them anymore. Cassidy was here for 7 years, more than most NHL coaches stick with a team.

Either way it was time for both the Bruins and Cassidy to move on.

Worked out for both sides and I hope we beat Cassidy in game 7 of the SCF at TD garden next year.

Easy to believe, when one player now rescinds his trade request, another probably returning after retiring seemed probable and yet another skipping town and now courted by the team for a return. Cassidy's public admonishment of players this year was a new tactic for him or at least a tactic that seemed to be used more often. It all ended after year 7 but was probably brewing for 3 years.

I thought Cassidy was too blunt about players in front of the press. He was at times the one who couldn’t just leave it in the “room.”
Exactly right,he ramped up his public criticism this year, that never goes over well.

I mean it's clear as day in any profession. Your whole 'team' doesn't like you.. HR says bye.
Actually, that's not always the case. And it shouldn't be. Successful organizations recognize that it's a two way street b/w managment and employees. A balance. Neither side should hold too much sway.

Maybe Bruce did cross the line too many times with too many players, but some of our "employees" would not win "employee of the month" too often...

True but I actually liked Cassidy’s honesty at least as a fan but maybe it was part of his downfall, I really don’t know.

Yeah…I think so too.

IMO the flaw in that theory is that it happened after Cassidy was here a pretty long time. I mean if 5/6 years from now it happens again, she can come back with an “I told you so”…but chances are there will be a different GM and probably at least 40-50% of the team turned over.
