This idea that every Jet has to take all comers has to end. The Scheifele fight a few games back was a WTF moment. Why is Bambi dropping the gloves?
Stuart taking on Deslauriers - I mean why? Nothing to gain at that juncture of the game. And honestly, as far as the Deslauriers hit on Scheifele, it wasn't that bad. He never even fell down, and lets face it Scheif trips over the blue line twice a game.
I mean I appreciate the fight that Stu has in him, but we need to be smart too.
I have been wondering about this for a while. What kind of toll with all this physicality have on the Jets as the year rolls on. I was watching a game on TV last week, can't even remember which one - Panthers vs someone. And I was noticing how the guys were 'finishing' their checks enough to get the 'hit' registered, but they weren't really hitting hard. You know, turning a bit when they make the hit and holding up when approaching the man. Both teams were doing it. And I was thinking that they are probably preserving their health for the stretch run. I couldn't help but contrast it with the Jets games. The Jets are a hard hitting team, which usually causes the other team to respond with equal physicality. Don't get me wrong, I love watching Jets hockey. But I couldn't help but think, can we keep this up all year?
