Jonathan Toews is one of several Blackhawks making his third Stanley Cup Final appearance. He’s played in many postseason games.

Considering how many lengthy playoff runs the Blackhawks have had, the grind it takes to get here, the shine wears off a little, doesn’t it? Well, no, actually.

“I think last night for me was one of the toughest nights to get to sleep because of the excitement,” Toews said with a smile on his face. “I’m sure a lot of the guys share that same feeling.”
Indeed, they do.

There’s something about this time of the postseason, whether it’s your first time going to the Final or your third time: you’re like a kid, brimming with anticipation, excitement and perhaps some sleeplessness. The feelings never get old and the Blackhawks, who will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 on Wednesday night, are experiencing them again.

“Not that I can’t believe we’re here, but there [was] definitely excitement after the Game 7," Patrick Sharp said. "It was tough to kind of relax on the plane and get to sleep when I got home. I remember the first time in 2010; we were close to winning, and there wasn’t a whole lot of pregame naps going on. It wasn’t great sleep at nighttime. It was so much excitement. I think the more times you go through it, the more relaxed you can get. But having said that, the excitement and energy is still there.”

The road to the Stanley Cup Final can feel like a trek through Death Valley, but in their steps left behind throughout the postseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning have discovered their oasis.

By now, there should be no test that looks too large for them. By now, there should be no obstacle created in the media swirl nearby that appears too daunting for them to hoist hockey's biggest prize and announce to the world that this young-and-tantalizing era is here to stay for a long while.

The Chicago Blackhawks, a worthy adversary, stand as Tampa Bay's final foe in this long-and-winding journey. But in reality, the Lightning's greatest challenge on the NHL's grandest stage will come from within. Belief in their ability to beat a proven opponent, one with big-city glitz and comfort around the Cup, will be their greatest weapon on the ice. They alone control their fate.

If recent results have shown us anything, it's that you should doubt this bunch at your own peril.

lets steal the first one and claim home ice advantage from there.

Is Kimmo really in the lineup for this game? I don't see any confirmations on Twitter. I'm sure he'll get one game in and I hope the time off and the close proximity to the Cup will extract the last drops of greatness out of him.

No chance.

TVR should also be listed in the scratches, assuming he's not playing.

Game 1 is finally here! Tonight can't get here any faster. Let's take game 1 and take home ice right away. Just win! Let's go Hawks!

#Blackhawks lines:
Saad-Toews-Kane
Bickell-Richards-Hossa
Sharp-Vermette-Teravainen
Desjardins-Kruger-Shaw

Thought Q might split Kane & Toews until he felt he needed them together, but looks like he's keeping the pedal to the metal.

He might as well. Maybe keeping Toews and Kane together will make this a quick series. :naughty:

Maybe it's just a decoy and he goes back to splitting them up at the start.

Another fine GDT!

Simple (but difficult) formula, take one of the first two on the road, take care of business at home, and have potentially three chances to win it all.

Here's hoping that the Hawks do their thing and start out strong!

I doubt it, I think Kane moving to the first line makes the second line better as well. We saw in the last series Kane did nothing till he moved up and Hossa performed better from what I saw as well.
