Anyone else think that this team has the character to take on Semin, if the price was right? Could be a great buy low and sell high opportunity. Maybe GlenX and 2015 2nd. That contract is brutal though.
Hudler/Monahan/Semin
Gaudreau/Granlund/Colborne

Carolina probably couldn't pay us enough for me to want to take him. Last thing we need is a locker room distraction and a bloated contract.

I wouldn't trade a 5th round pick for Semin, in fact I wouldn't even claim him on waivers let alone trade a 2nd round pick for him.

Guess it depends on if you believe Semin is washed up or not. Yes, he's extremely unmotivated on the Canes but could a change put him back in the 60-70 point range?

Fine, but you don't take a $35M risk on a player while solving a $35M problem for the other team while also giving them assets in exchange. Seriously, the Canes would probably give us a second just to take Semin, if not a first.

The canes will try and sell him in that manner and if any GM buys that and pays for it, they should be fired

Exactly. Think of it like this. If you pay Glencross +2nd for Semin, the best case scenario is that you paid fair value for a good player. That's the absolute best case scenario. Every other scenario is that you got completely ripped off, including the scenario where Semin is the same player here as he was there.

In a good trade, the best case scenario is that you win the trade hands-down, and the worst case scenario is that you lose the trade hands-down, but if that happens it's your own fault.

Unless the Canes are packaging their 1st this year it's a big hell no from me!

**** no. I want nothing to do with Semin.

I would, however, target Justin Williams if he makes it to UFA.

How much do you think for Williams as a FA? He's mainly a #2 /#3 RW with intangibles. I'd think we'd have to overpay a bit.

3 years 18m ?

year 1:8m
year 2:5m
year 3:5m

I'd try for 4 years, 20 million. He'd be an upgrade on our top 6 for now, and he'd still be an awesome bottom 6 guy to have down the road, especially with his playoff experience. I'd even look at 5 years 25 mil.

Hes a great player and everything but theres no way I offer that kind of term to what will be a 34 year old 2nd/3rd liner.

Too long of a deal IMO, he's 33. He'll be 34 when the 2015-16 season starts. 3 years maybe 4 just my opinion.

The two guys I want to throw our money at in FA are Marc Staal (6'4 - 207lbs) and Mikael Boedker (6'0 - 211lbs).

Staal would only be 28 and instantly become our #3D with Wideman. This would allow Russell to bring mobility to our bottom pairing and hopefully keep the puck in the offensive zone more.

Boedker would only be 25! Reminds me of a more physical Hudler. (This would be assuming we don't resign GlenX or if he's moved to RW). I also think Sven won't be a Flame next year, so this would open up a spot for a proven/young LW like Boedker.

Boedker is an RFA, is he not? Not worth losing the picks in an offer sheet.

This has been debated back and forth.

Some sites say UFA others RFA. This would be his 7th year in the league which should make him a UFA.
If he was an RFA I wouldn't waste picks either...
