In reality, the Taiko's son grew up eventually and some shit goes down.
I got the first few plot points of next season:

Taiko's son gets his swords for the first time. Widow's Wail he calls it. He gets betrothed to a sweet young lady named Sakura-sansa . Cut to dark room where the Taiko's son whispers to robed man, "Bring me his head". Toranaga arrives in the city and Taiko's son welcomes him. The son steps walks to the throne, turns back, and points to Toranaga "it's my Name Day, kneel before your King."

Shogoon Season 2 title screen begins

It would've been cool to see Toranaga fight Ishido. I thought we saw a clip in a show trailer of the two of them fighting? I could be misremembering. I get the ending, I didn't need a huge battle as a finale but one more episode basically with the Heir acknowledging Toranaga and denouncing Ishido, with Toranaga in the capital taking power would've been much more satisfying.

Very fun show. The tonal shift from the first 3 episodes still shook me a little bit but overall I really enjoyed everything else about it. I definitely don't think the series needs a season 2 and honestly that's really refreshing to not see the series be milked for extra content unnecessarily.

Honestly, the way the series ended there is going to be another season

They cannot end a 10 episode miniseries like that, and the hype and fanfare is just too much

Too many unanswered questions they could easily flesh out into a season. Such as
How did Blackthorn get home, how did he get those swords

I hope they dont do another season. They told the story. We know who wins. More importantly, we finally know who Toranaga is, which was the overarching question through the series. End on a good note and let's hope the directors find another project that's just as great.

main star re-signed for a possible season 2

curious where they go from here as the shogun story is pretty much done with blackthorne at least from the literature side
They could have him captain that fleet after all and then return home to England to make those flashbacks true after all.

Interesting news for a possible 2nd season though. They totally could’ve left it at one season but I’m glad it did well enough for more episodes.

I read an article yesterday about how the show's Emmy category possibly switching from Limited Series to Drama Series could hint at a Season 2, but it seemed like wishful thinking, so I didn't post it. It looks a lot more likely now and that the switch hasn't been finalized because they're trying to sign the people that they need to make a Season 2.

I think that they could tell a lot more story. They don't necessarily have to abide by the epilogue at end of Season 1. Episode 10 was even named "A Dream of a Dream," so it could be brushed off as Toranaga's "dream" of how things were going to go. They could end up going nowhere near as smoothly as he envisioned.

My only concern is I'm pretty sure they ran out of material to adapt. At least as far as Toranaga's story is concerned. They could draw from real history, e.g. Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga) and William Adams (Blackthorne) to fill in the blanks but there's already a weird accuracy dilution. Shogun the novel is a dramatized dilution of real life events, while FX's Shogun (from what I've heard) took liberties with the novel's story.

Not a fan unless it's an anthology series (bring back the same actors just in different roles) and they focus on another historical Japanese era story. Making up a story to continue with these characters would be a poor idea.

I think people remember the failures (Game of Thrones, Heroes S2) but there have been successes in continuing shows and they do have history to loosely fall back on. As long as it's not a paycheck for the producers/writers and they do have ideas they can shape into a coherent story.
