As much as it might sound, I don't dislike Weber at all. I've compared him to Rob Blake constantly. I don't think that's a slight at all.
My problem has everything to do with the opinion of others on Weber and what Weber represents in backwards hockey culture. I don't believe he's the kind of player you want in 2018 to be your #1 defenceman. He's the guy you want to be your #2-#3, or have two or three guys at a similar skill level to split duties. But he's not a guy you should expect to front your blueline if you want a Cup.
If there's one minute to go in an elimination playoff game and I need a right side defenceman on the ice, Weber is one of the last guys who we'd consider a "top defenceman" I would want out there. Is he a good defenceman? Sure. But I want a guy out there who represents where the game is and where it's going, not a guy who represents what it used to be.
