Any other examples of players having that same injury/surgery/6-month rehab? How did they look when they came back? etc...

This team is in a mess, Price, 31 multiple lower body injuries and concussion sign 8 more years at 10.5mil. We gave 2 2nds for Andrew Shaw, who's career is most likely over. Alzner is a bottom pairing D with a ugly contract.

Haven't been following the team much... what's up with Shawful? Another concussion? Career ending?

If it's over for him, at least we won't have to bother with his cap hit. But yeah, those two 2nds sting.

Yeah guys most likely done , hopefully for him and his family he retires soon, tough to see his head get banged around over and over again as much as I don't really like the guy.

I wonder how retirements due to concussions are handled by the insurers. NHL players are big clients, still no matter the percentage he'd be paid, that's a whole lotta cash.

After watching Shea Weber & Team Canada winning the World Cup & two Olympic Gold medals, I am so happy he's a Hab for years to come. Great leader, athlete and person, no down side at all, we all age and most get better like a fine wine.:thumbu::thumbu::thumbu::devdance::devdance::devdance::banana::banana::banana::walrus::walrus::walrus:

So apparently he's out 6 months after the surgery. That means he may not even be skating until August/ September.

Not sure how his summer workouts are going to go. Probably should've had the surgery way earlier.

Look at Karlsson this year. A much much better skater than Weber & he's slowed down a bit & had a terrible year.

This could be bad news coming out of the gate for next year. Hoping rehabilitation goes well.

Weber's game has never been about speed. He's a smart defenseman with great positioning and a killer slap shot. If we're worried about him being beat in odd man rushes, just pair him with someone who can skate like we did with Markov post surgeries.

Would've been nice to have this done months ago, but I guess it wasn't possible.

A person can't have the surgery when the Surgeon was booked up until now. You want the best doing it and sometimes one must wait to make that happen

Karlsson's injury was ankle related though and his game is based on his skating. I can't comment with certainty on Weber's injury until he's done with rehab and resumes skating, but I am assuming he may not be impacted to the extent Karlsson was. This is based solely on the way Weber plays compared to Karlsson so I think the impact may not be as evident. I mean, maybe he's done, but I think he'll be fine provided he has no setbacks during rehab this summer.

The players who were available to be selected with those 2nds would easily be Habs best prospects right now. Debrincat is easily better than any prospect in the organization + any of the prospects graduated after 2013. Didn't need AHL time so probably would have been able to develop similarly here.

My understanding was that they were waiting to see if it would heal via physiotherapy/rehabilitation before opting for surgery.

Guy was out 2 months before they decided for surgery. No way any high end athlete waits 3 months for surgeon. They made the call late hoping he could still play this year.

He saw the surgeon/specialist in February & finally got the surgery.

Hopefully he's a good healer & all goes well, but if he slows down at all...

Initially, yes but then once the team staff and Shea made the decision, they had to wait for Dr. Anderson to be available.

I tried looking up defencemen around Weber's age who suffered tendon tear injuries and the closest I found was Sami Salo. Salo was 36 when he returned, a near 100% recovery but he wore down as the season would go on. He was a June to February recovery which was eight months. So it's possible for Weber to be back and not be half the player but his season stamina will more than likely take a hit.

Not an easy surgery to recover from. He's going to come back from months without playing, I'm not expecting a good year from him. If he loses mobility, it's going to be tough for him to keep up.

Anyone else think he gets LTIR'd in 3 years time?

No. They'd force him to retire, trade him to Nashville, trade him to cap conscious team or likely compliance buy-out when the new CBA is signed after either the NHL or NHLPA opts out of the current CBA September 2019.

LTIR is well down the list for Weber.

So in La Belle Province, there is only one qualified orthopaedic surgeon who could do a very good job on Weber’s foot? Since owner Geoff Molson and his family are not penny-pinchers, could he not find qualified surgeons in Boston, NYC, LA?

So, Carey Price will turn 31 in August and he has a wobbly knee and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Shaw is one more concussion from retiring. Jordy Benn is lead-footed. Karl Alzner makes Bergevin want to puke each time his name is mentioned. Drouin will be a center or bust. Chucky either plays center or he will be traded. Patches wants a rich contract extension before he is traded. Mete is Francois Boullion II and look how well Boullion played.

Weber’s return to Nashville will never happen. The Flyers tried to pry the restricted free agent Weber from Nashville and although the Preds weren’t all too happy, ownership matched the Flyers’ insane offer and ever since, David Poile had been looking for a willing trade partner. One day, he phoned Marc Bergevin about taking Weber off his hands in exchange for the more exciting crowd pleaser that is PK Subban.
