So in La Belle Province, there is only one qualified orthopaedic surgeon who could do a very good job on Weber’s foot? Since owner Geoff Molson and his family are not penny-pinchers, could he not find qualified surgeons in Boston, NYC, LA?

Took 2 seconds to google although I really shouldn't be indulging this kind of obnoxious whiner post with a response but...

The surgery was done by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay, Wisc.

Weber’s return to Nashville will never happen. The Flyers tried to pry the restricted free agent Weber from Nashville and although the Preds weren’t all too happy, ownership matched the Flyers’ insane offer and ever since, David Poile had been looking for a willing trade partner. One day, he phoned Marc Bergevin about taking Weber off his hands in exchange for the more exciting crowd pleaser that is PK Subban.

I still think he’s a great defenceman. I know a lot of people shit on him because they love PK and that’s fine. But Shea is still really good. This is his first major injury so hopefully it’s not a trend.

OK, on the power play, Weber’s slapshot velocity is on par with Subban’s. However, Weber is not likely to take the puck on a solo effort in trying to score. He’s mostly a shutdown stay at home D who likes to bang and crush opposing forwards. Paying him some $7.8M per season is overpayment just paying Big Buff of the Jets $8M per was Chevy’s folly.

Weber's game has never been about speed. He's a smart defenseman with great positioning and a killer slap shot. If we're worried about him being beat in odd man rushes, just pair him with someone who can skate like we did with Markov post surgeries.

Would've been nice to have this done months ago, but I guess it wasn't possible.
Hopefully he comes back okay. His value rests in his positional play and his shot so as long as he doesn't lose too much speed, he'll still be a great trading chip.

I think it's always more about what we need rather than how great they are. We've filled our D's with defensive d-men. In a team that is supposed to have the best goalie in the world. Why in the world do we construct our team as if we have the worst goalie in the world in net? And then you add the contract..the money and the term. In this salary cap world, a player being GREAT is not solely about his own potential and capacity. It's about the fit he has in a team. And how how moneywise he is for the team. Then, you do add what we have given for him. And it's incredibly understandable why people crap on him. Yet, what we are mostly crapping on is the GM.

Where the Montreal Canadiens are, with all their weaknesses almost everywhere, those "great" players are not needed. As we saw what they could do....or couldn't do. Of course, we will use how he was injured from the get go to explain his play. As if EVERY player in the league are always healthy and NEVER plays with injuries. Strangely, you will see tons of NHL'ers who will be great in tihe playoffs and will announce right after they are done that they are going to be operated. But in Montreal, injuries will always be key to explain why it didn't work. Reason behind this is solely to buy time. Until the next "injury".

Which we should be banking on ASAP.

But yeah.. that ain't gonna happen as long as Dum-Bumgevin is around and Molson keeps his prerogative of making the playoffs instead of rebuilding.

Crush? That happens what....twice in a year?
Weber is a big guy that plays position well and defends his area effectively. He's got a massive bomb from the point too. He isn't fast or slow, he isn't particularly agile, his hands aren't good, and he can make a decent pass.

Also, they operate under the false premise that defensive Dman need to be stay at home Dman. Subban is an excellent defensive D. But you know, he also can skate the puck up, dangle it, make fancy plays, and has awesome offensive vision, that apparently doesn't make him a defensive D anymore.
The idea that we would improve defensive aspect of our defense by replacing Markov with Alzner is just completely wrong and exactly what is worrisome about how the peanut brain trust of this organization thinks.

Bargainbin is salivating at the thought of having his excuse for next year's failure fall right on his lap so early: "It's tough to play well when you don't get no practice all summer" and "Look at Karlsson in Ottawa last year, that's a two-time Norris winner who was terrible because he didn't get no practice" are two things he is 100% sure to utter at his end-of-year presser in 12 months.

This man is lined up to be our GM for years to come if all these fortuitous events keep happening.

I'll bet in 4 weeks at the season end presser he'll say stuff like "when you lose a player of Shea Weber's calibre, it's hard to make the playoffs."

Not really...he busted his knee cap other year in playoffs.

Great piece on Weber by Arpon Basu in the Athletic today.

Makes me sad that some Hab “fans” can’t appreciate what a great person player and teammate Weber is. Apparently everyone in hockey knows this except some Habs fan who can’t get over a trade that he had no control over.

Great person. Great player. Great teammate.

Sounds great. Who wants him? Highest bidder.

It should also be known that fans under-appreciate Byron Froese, who is also great teammate.

The guys is very friendly, generous, smells very nice and he wears funny socks with Peanuts characters on them.

I feel like Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross.

"Nice guy? I don't give a ****. Good father? **** you! Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here - close! You think this is abuse?"

The game continues to get faster while Weber will continue to slow. Not sure how many “productive” years he has. This trade has Rick Dudley written all over it.
