It really is hard to believe the special teams are so bad with the personnel available.
The special teams are not that bad, chill. They're getting ****ed by bad percentages. They're a little below average league-wise in terms of shot rates. Couture being back should put the 1PP back on track, and he's also an elite penalty killer. That'll help. If it's still not good enough, make sure the #6 RHD you acquire at the deadline is PP-capable.
Mediocre special teams is really not bothering me right now.
I will also say that there were years when the Sharks had stellar special teams, and one common knock against them on these boards was that they were too reliant on the PP to generate offense to be successful in the postseason, where man-advantage opportunities are at a greater premium. I do hope DW and PDB do some work to improve special teams, but I am very happy that they've been able to put up wins having such miserable PP/PK rates.
What kind of PP specialists might be available at the deadline? I'd be OK flipping Wingels for a defenseman if he can QB a 2nd unit powerplay effectively and not be a tire fire 5v5.
Marek Zidlicky & Okposo for Wingels and ?
One can dream.
I agree the 3rd pairing RD who can be a PP QB is the spot to focus on. Wait for Couture to return to assess the special teams.
Tyson Barrie anyone?

Yah, he'd be ideal, seems unlikely though unless Colorado is stupid (which is possible).
Braun for Barrie might work for both teams though. Colorado shores up their defense, we improve our offense, etc. Rather keep Braun if possible though, otherwise the net gain isn't all that great, more of a sideways move.
& Hertl....maybe Braun more realistically, but that I think they'd pass on Braun, unless there was a Hamonic trade which would bring them a forward to replace Okposo. Okposo would cost a ton.
Zidlicky would be okay, Demers would actually be ideal, but no chance dallas trades him.
Spurgeon, Barrie, or Byfuglien would be incredible, but all will cost a lot of assets, starting with a 1st (and someone will move their 2016 1st for them) or top 6 forward (yes, better than Wingels).
Lovejoy or Kris Russel as a rental ?
Is Ryan ready for the show? Don't know anything about him besides his statline in the AHL.
I like the discussion of upgrades just for the sake of spitballing names. I agree however that they should let the team keep playing before spending assets to upgrade.

There is no need to talk about defensive improvements and rentals at the moment. Lovejoy is only an upgrade on the rotating cast of #7's we have, but once Joakim Ryan gets called up that won't even be the case.
Russell would be ok, but there's no reason to depart with assets right now. Let's wait until the deadline.
