The Oilers wouldn't have traded Hall if we could get Shattenkirk or Barrie without moving him. Insert reality!!!

Oilers only D acquisition is Larsson with the possibility of Demers and/or Russell signing.

Enjoy the D group... it is what it is!

Free agency hasn't even started. I doubt we strike out completely with trades and free agency

We'll cross that bridge when we get there. With the current lineup, however, I would say Larsson is on the 1st unit PP.

That's my feeling as well.

1) That's an awfully small sample size.
2) He didn't get back to that level again at any point in the year last year.

though we do have the sample size from the year before with Roy where Yak looked like a top 6 option.

Yak a bust for a 1OV, but we've seen time and again: put him with a top 6 centre and he'll have succeed, but him non-top 6 centre leads to a lot of crashing and burning.

Lucic-McDavid-Yakupov
Maroon-Draisiatl-Eberle
Pouliot-RNH-Kassian

Even without Hall, it's still a deep forward core

If we trade anyone else away from our top 6 we start to look a little weaker there.

Lucic-McDavid-Eberle
Pouliot-RNH-Drai

I think this is pretty much it unless Chia can get a defencmen for just picks or something. Probabl will add Demers but thats it, unless Chia really think Puljujarvi is ready for top 6 minutes which would be a mistake.

So does the Larsson trade eliminate Demers? I would think Chia would be looking for an offensive dman now.

Shattenkirk.

Does.

Not.

Want.

To.

Sign.

In.

Edmonton (or anywhere else in the West).

He has given St. Louis a list of FOUR teams he'll sign an extension with. People need to understand this already.

Wait, if we just traded Hall for Larsson straight up, people think a RNH or Eberle trade will get us Shattenkirk?

Really?

Not to mention the fact that he doesn't want to come here?

What?

Spurgeon is the only real (good) slim chance left. Minnesota needs a C. Would probably be looking at Drai+ at this rate.

But they seem more eager to dump Brodin or Dumba, and for good reason.

Larsson just completed his 5th season in the NHL. Put up 18 points. Hedman in his 5th season had 55 and had already put up 2 other seasons better than anything Larsson has done so far in his career.

Maybe Larsson has just been stuck on an offensively inept team. But it's not like the Oilers have had d-men come here and knock it out of the park offensively. Seems like a reach to expect Larsson to be anything more than a 30-35 point d-man in the future.

Larsson is outstanding defensively. 30-35 points on top of his defense makes him a #1 defenseman in the same breath as Ryan Suter.

RNH for Dumba
Yakupov for pucks
Puljujarvi to start in AHL b/c his injury recovery pushed into training camp.

I'll paypal anyone $100 bucks if they can have me optimistic for this upcoming season.

hahahaha, dreger stating that the lucic deal will be for 7 years.... bahahaha

just when you think that chia couldn't POSSIBLY get any worse, he somehow proves you wrong and continually proves to be inept in every aspect of being a GM

A part of me saw the writing on the wall for Taylor Hall's exit the moment we drafted Tyler Benson.

Here we have a guy who was projected as a mid-1st rounder heading into the draft and projects to be a top-6 LW at the NHL level..

While much inferior to Hall offensively, he also brings that gritty, never-quit mentality that Chia loves....as does a Milan Lucic.

We need to face the facts that Chia doesn't have the same opinion of the golden boys that Oiler fans do.

But in any regard- McDavid, Puljujarvi, Draisaitl, Lucic, Eberle, RNH, Benson will probably be the best forward core in the NHL in 2-3 years time.

Ryan Suter is a 45-50 point d-man. Those 10-20 points are a might big difference for a d-man. Not to mention the reality is that it's more like 30 points than 10-20. Larsson right now is a 20 point d-man. Not a 30-35 one.

Larsson and Demers really improves the team's ability to move the puck up the ice quickly. Which will decrease turnovers.

Getting the puck to Drai or McDavid in the neutral zone will no doubt in my mind result in far fewer turnovers which will help goals against. It will also substantially increase the Oilers ability to score on odd man rushes.

In theory this will change how the team plays the game.

But Hall :(

i actually won't mind that much anymore.... the hall trade has made all other terrible trades LESS terrible, due to just how UNBELIEVABLY BAD the hall trade is

seriously, i feel like i'm in a nightmare
Dumba for RNH is much worse the Larsson for Hall... People forget that last offseason RNH was the golden boy and people would have traded Hall.

Dumba's upside is #4 D who is good on the PP.

Wait, Demers is an Oiler now?

Again, I stress that people don't count their chickens here.
