It's really a function of how terrible the other casinos were in Edmonton at that time. Baccarat opened in 94 or 95

Baccarat opened a few years after ABS on 112th street closed. But if any of the older demographic among users here remember that terrible, disgusting place then Baccarat being considered good puts it into perspective. Or the casino that was in the old Mayfair hotel in the early 90s. :amazed:

Just signed up for the tour of Rogers. Got two passes for 11 am.
I think the casino in the Mayfair hotel was long gone by 1990.

You forgot to mention the old ABS casino that operated just north of Baccarat on about 105 st and 105 ave. They were open for a year or two at the same time. That was a hole too.

As ugly as Baccarat is, I enjoyed that casino. Whether I won or lost I never felt cheated in there. I can't say the same thing about the Yellowhead casino. I actually had a pit boss stop the sicbo wheel mid spin on me and quickly spin it himself because the spinner was inexperienced and he figured I could read her.:amazed:. Last time I ever gambled there.

Anyway, baccarat is an eyesore that needed to be replaced but it was a good casino.

I was in the Mayfair in 1990. It was re-opened that year. It was a strange deal and only open for six months or so. They had the waitresses in these fishnet stockings which was really odd cuz they could only serve pop and coffee back then, no booze.

Yes, I remember that 'new' location for ABS. Agreed it was a hole. Supposedly Baccarat beat them down for competition.

There is no way the pit boss at Yellowhead should have done that mid spin. :amazed: That was flat out wrong and you could have reported them to the AGLC for that. The casino would have gotten in really big trouble for that. Stuff would have rolled down to the pit boss, either demoted or fired. But casinos aren't attracting the best and the brightest. It's crappy pay, bad hours and there are always angry players. Not sure why, but people tend to get mad when they lose money. :sarcasm:

Someone always thinks a casino looks cheesey. Grand Villa will definitely be an upgrade from Baccarat. Their grand opening is next Thursday night. Don't think they'll have to distribute tickets for that one.

I think I read somewhere that season seat holders can visit their seats. Be the first to sit in them.

Interesting note...In looking at the rest of the Rogers Place FAQ, it also says that all noisemakers - including vuvuzelas - are prohibited items on gameday.

I guess the plastic horns have been relegated to Tier 2 status.

Thought those were banned awhile ago. Might've been league wide
