Risto has everything in his game except the one thing that players usually develop later on; Solid defense. He's still a kid, even though he doesn't look it and he has a lot of time to develop into a monster.

What's the quantifiable difference between a beast and a monster exactly, considering he's already being touted (in this very thread) as the former.

You ask people to point out what makes Ristolainen good aside from his PP scoring and nobody really has an adequate answer.

Oh just thought it was an ironic considering the Zaitsev vs Larsson poll where the opposite is generally being touted. Leaf logic.
 Zaitsev is much better defensively than Risto and if you don't actually have any argument outside of +/- then don't bother. Zaitsev is also not a huge guy, he's just average by NHL defenseman standards.

In some aspects he is already a beast. His physical game is intimidating and he's a good PP QB with one hell of a shot. But in my opinion, to be a beast of a dman, you have to actually be good at defending.

22 year old Dman is still so, so young. These guys peak at like 26-30. Lidström entered the damn league at 21-22. Hedman found his game when he was 25 year old.

Risto is playing insane minutes (highest in the league right now) as a 22 year old. He will be great.

This is one thing I've noticed too. Usually it's some combination of "just watch him" or "it's all Josh Gorges fault".

1. Be 6'4" and 220+ lbs

2. Score lots of points, especially on the PP

3. ??????????

4. Top pairing D!!!

Personally I think the amount of minutes he's playing is contributing to his downfall right now. Housley needs to get that under control, IMO.

An argument one could use is that Ristolainen is much stronger and better at physical play whereas Rielly gets pushed around quite easily. But certainly, because Ristolainen himself is pretty terrible at playing defense it's tough to find things in his favor in that regard. It's primarily his offense that gives him the advantage here.
