What a bizarre year or so it must have been for anyone (still) working at Twitter.
  • First you get a new owner, because some guy was tricked into buying it for an outrageous price.
  • Then he has to fire a bunch of people to make up for all the debt he saddled the company with.
  • When that's not enough to turn things around, he spends a few months spitballing bad ideas on Twitter and demanding instant implementation of them. None of these schemes work, things break in the process.
  • Finally advertisers start noticing the racist stuff he posts on the platform that he owns, causing a mass exodus of advertisers.
  • He panics and heads to Israel to try to convince everyone that he's actually not a racist, that doesn't work either.
  • Now the entire thing isn't just losing money, it's threatening to completely fall apart.
Also, for those that remain, they ended up with a new boss that doesn't believe in work from home (a staple in pretty much all jobs now, but certainly tech fields) AND expects people to be work over hours in salary positions consistently.

I'd expect the only people really left are the true believers though, the rest likely moved onto other companies.

Pretty much. Musk is nothing special, not some visionary etc. he is just a real good conman and his cons are going to be his downfall I guess. He is a hate filled little man who refuses to admit he is the cause of all his businesses issue which includes growing issues at Tesla these days.

Anyone else suddenly unable to see any X posts linked on HF? it just says "loading" on them all now (firefox) but I can click to go see the post on X.
It's not just hfBoards. Using chrome on PC and Android twitter embedding has broken down entirely over the past day from what I've seen.

Musk is such an idiot. He is going to kill all his companies at this rate. His stupidity, fragile ego and bigotry are not only hurting Twitter now but are starting to hurt Tesla etc.

A large recall over Tesla's autopilot, the constant pushing back of that monstrosity of a pick up, etc. are hurting Tela financially and its reputation.

He's also finding out how tough workers unions are in the Nordic countries.

We get that you are jelly, but the guy is constantly changing the world. None of his companies are anywhere near failure.

Twitter isn’t having any more glitches or down times than previous as far as I’ve noticed. It’s never been without its flaws.

What dream world do you live in? He has changed nothing in the world, his specialty is taking existing ideas and companies and changing the narrative as if he came up with them. He had nothing to do with founding of Tesla or the creation of any of the parts. He bought it and slowly took over kicking out the actual founders of the company as he went. Space X is nothing new and again he took others ideas and markets them as his own.

Tesla is having a ton of issues right now, the shares are down over the last 6 months and the cybertruck continue to be pushed back while he is coming up against unions all over the world, but especially in the EU, over how he treats his employees. He had a hissy fit and removed D+ access from vehicles which has pissed off a ton of customers. Over 120,000 cars have been recalled due to issues that cause the doors to open during an accident. They had another "recall" of over 2M due to faulty software that monitors auto-pilot. It has come to light that faulty parts that the company use to blame customers for were actually always faulty and they knew it. They continue to be known for poor workmanship and as one of the vehicle companies with the worst initials quality of new vehicles.

Twitter, by his own admission, is on the verge of failing and he refuses to take any responsibility instead he blames everyone else including former advertisers. Sure telling advertisers to f*** off is really going to make them want to come back. No big advertisers means no money which means failure of the company unless it is addresses soon.

The boring company is a complete failure having done none of what it was supposed to do. The hyperloop idea was dumb from the start and has failed miserably.

Remember that in this particular transportation system of the future, Musk was contractually obligated to deliver a specific daily ridership to the convention center: 4,000 people per hour for 13 hours per day during major trade shows. (The contract also has penalties for failure to meet these numbers: $300,000 per trade show for a maximum of $4.5 million.) Part of this math was calculated when the system was to use autonomous 12-passenger vans, which have never materialized, and then by having four passengers in each autonomous SUV, with one person sitting in the non-driving driver’s seat. I think we can all agree, after seeing what is going on above ground, that it’s a good thing these vehicles are not autonomously zinging through stations crowded with people walking to their rides (and kids aren’t allowed to ride in these tunnels anyway, which is probably … also good). But it’s plain to any observer that there are not 4,000 people moving through this tunnel per hour, and recent data showed it’s more like 1,300 people per hour — about the capacity of standard (and, often, autonomous) people-movers all over Vegas — meaning the Boring Company has massively shortchanged its client.

Neurolink has been a failure so far and is a magnet for controversy for all the primates it has killed. Solar City has failed. etc, etc,

Musk is the most overhyped people in the world. He is not some tech guru or visionary person. He is someone that likes to step on others and proclaim himself king. He is nothing more than a think skinned, bigoted liar.

He's the richest man in the world. I'm sorry you aren't as successful, but to claim he's not a success is absurd.

This is hilarious, so you equate being successful only to money and one cannot be successful unless you have more money than Musk?

He also has kids, 11 I believe, that he almost never sees and a number of said they hate him and want nothing to do with him. Sounds successful to me.

He is widely distrusted and even hated due to his abuse of employees and his bigotry and racism. But ya sounds successful to me.

No matter how much he might be worth he is not a good person.

He waged war against a Tesla whistleblower

Tripp next brought internal Tesla documents to Business Insider, but in response, Musk waged war against the leaker, as detailed in a bizarre and harrowing Bloomberg investigation. He fired Tripp, then sued him for $167 million. He hired private investigators who tailed him in person and hacked his phone to see his texts in real-time. And, on his alleged orders, Tesla's security team passed along a "tip" to police claiming that Tripp was planning to commit a mass shooting at the factory. The SWAT team deployed to Tripp's house found him unarmed and sobbing.

Aside from being, to put it mildly, a bit of an overreaction, Musk's enraged response to Tripp's whistleblowing is a major failure for a tech CEO overseeing his own factory. As noted by CNBC, companies that are responsive to whistleblower concerns are ultimately more profitable in the long run. And, as we shall see, this would not be the last time Musk paid a price for ignoring the concerns of his workers.

Under his management, Tesla covered up safety violations, workplace injuries, and racism

n 2019, Forbes found that Tesla had been investigated by California OSHA 24 times between 2014 and 2018 and was fined for 54 violations. One worker lost a finger after his glove was caught in a torque gun. There were eight investigations at Tesla's Tennessee factory with five violations found, and the one in Kentucky was investigated 13 times with four violations issued. In 2020, the Los Angeles Times reported that Tesla had covered up hundreds of factory-related injuries since 2015.

etc, etc.

Funniest part is that he has his own display at the museum of failure

He is wealthy, and by that measure highly successful, no argument here.

However, unless you hold stock in one of his companies his wealth is mostly his business. His mishandling of Twitter and Tesla has become other people's business though, and the miserable and atrocious manner in which he treats people publicly is also public business.

Whether a person disagrees or agrees with his politics is immaterial. Good people exist all across the political spectrum (seriously, if a person likes someone just because of their politics that is f***ing pathetic, not saying you do that because I don't know you) and the common denominator is that they don't treat others the way Musk treats others. Good people are good people and bad people are bad people. Successful people can be good or bad, and there's no evidence that Musk is the former.

And his stupidity continues...he now wants them to just give him another 12% of Tesla's shares so his ownership would go from 13 to 25%

Elon Musk threatened to abandon some of Tesla’s most important work on Monday in an ongoing battle over how much he gets paid. The billionaire tweeted that he’s “uncomfortable” working on AI and robotics projects at the company unless he gains more control of its stock. Musk, who owns about a 13% share in the company, threatened to “build products outside of Tesla” if his ownership doesn’t grow to 25%.
